Driving up 78 through PA towing an empty horse trailer. Truck was running fine all the way up, went to pass a car and truck starting shaking and pouring white smoke. Pulled over immediately and truck was running really rough. Shut it down and crawled under neath. Small amount of fluid on PS radius arm. Reloaded the.minimax and tried again. Still having issues. Crawled under again and saw fluid running down PS of oil pan. Looked black but seemed thinner than oil. Limped it over to a hotel where she sits. Never threw a check engine light or anything. I'm at a loss and 150 miles from home. Thoughts?

Check the glow plug harness on the driver side valve cover. Check your CCV. Most likely an injector hung open and blew a piston. Sorry for the bad news.

i had a leak on the same side. only noticed it when i parked. turns out it was a bad injector ring. i was lucky enough to not have caused damage since I hadnt towed much before getting that fixed. hope it aint much done to your rig bro.

Yea. Same thing happened to craigs truck about 24 hours from home

What size tune, and how high were the egt? This has always been my concern as I tow around 14-15k on the spartan 250, but never see above 1100 egt. How many miles on the truck?

Well truck is home. Haven't gotten to tear into it yet but I've for sure got coolant in my exhaust. I know its case by case basis, but those who have lost a piston, what was the extent of damage? Cost? Sounds like it may be going to MPD sooner then I planned dependind on what FoMoCo says.

usually when a piston drops you dont get coolant in the exhaust. may have had a gasket severely let go.

my bet would be on a piston also. got an 08 in here now with two cracked, and a third starting. Luckily we were pulling it down to do studs and caught it before it cost him a motor. Hopefully it didn't tear the block up in your case. All the best of luck. Sucks to here.

Just ran the codes. P041D EGR code and P0281/P0266 cylinder contribution. Still running rough, but no more steam from the tail pipe and not nearly as rough. Cleared the codes and still cleaned up the idle a little. Anyone in my general area have a 6.4 DPF and EGR coolers I can borrow to get this pig to the dealer?
