What is the budget limit?

800hp motor easy peasy.... $2k for injectors, 2k for turbo, 1500ish for hpop's, 1k on fuel system.. $6500ish you have 800ish hp...

keeping it and the rest of the drivetrain to hold is the hard part..

Push rods, valve springs, studs, piston work, bed plate/girdle, and transmission...

Axle work likely...

live life full throttle

Without all that you listed afterwards, it wouldn't make it through the test drive...

Then crack a piston........ Then you have a 25 to 35K pickup that needs a engine. put a stock one in and repeat.... Now you would have been better off building a 7.3 to hold 700+ HP.

Never said it would be reliable. My 6.4 ate a piston so I know the feeling. I don't care what anybody says a 700+ up 7.3 will be just as (un)reliable as a tuned 6.4

I do not think the engine itself would be unreliable. It would be the rest of the drive train. Besides how often will you have the pedal to the floor using all the power?? I know I do not.

There are 7.3 that have lived for a long time in the 700+ range with a stock bottom end. It called tuning. Would I recommend it for a DD?? NO absolutely not!! The only way I would do it is IF it was used for sled pulling...

I hear and understand completely what you are saying.

I can make 1000 hp out of a 7.3 on a budget easily. The word budget could mean anything. Just means there is a "do not exceed" number. So yes you can make 800 hp on a budget. Just all depends on what that budget is.

Exactly. Budget. As in "my budget is $150,000. Or my budget is....$2500". Budget does not mean cheap.
