That's cool, I did not know about this. I'll definitely remember this if my pump decides to crap on me.

My wife asking me what I want. It's always tools or truck stuff. This mod is definitely in my future. What's the cost of that water pump, if you don't mind me asking?

IH told Tanya 385 for the pump. Her reply was less than affirmative when asked if.she wanted "to go ahead and just order it". I believe she said, "Ty will probably tell ya where to put.that pump at 385 dollars. I need you at 260 or less." She is well trained.

I have looked at that one in the link for awhile now. The issue I have is what is the reason for the 50% price drop from what the typical IH pump cost? Is it the EXACT same pump just at a lower price? A good example would be our Unit bearings from Ford made by Timken and we can get Timken Unit bearings non motorcraft for basically half the cost. If thats the case I am fine with it. But then you have examples like the Motorcraft ICP Sensor vs any other. Sure they are even less than half the cost but you many times end up going thru 2-3 to get one that is not glitchy and then they never seem to last anywhere as long as the motorcraft units. Given the work to swap out a water pump no way I am doing this and finding out it has some type of cheap bearings in it or fins that break off etc...

So are these Alliant Power pumps? Now who is the actual manf if its a sub'd out part?

So has anyone brought one from this company or talked to them to find out whats the deal on the part? Any info at all?

I am swapping in a bunch of perf parts I have had in my shop for awhile so I have everything pulled out of the front of the engine. Doing the LPOP as well. I figured while I am in here I will do the IH pump swap so I never have to worry about it again. But I would GLADLY pay the extra $185 if it means not having to pull this pump in 30-40-50K miles. Heck these should go a few 100K IMO. I have seen IH T444E out of buses that had 300K + and still had the original pumps according to records.

The only ones I find that clearly state Alliant pumps are in the 200-300 range. Diesel Specialties Inc has them for $288 here http://www.shopdieselspecialists.com/International-T444E-Water-Pump-p/ap63581_te.htm But all the ones that have them for lower seem to be a bit illusive about what the pump is. None state they are Alliant which if they were you would think it was be stated.

I would recommend a new motorcraft pump with a coolant filter just my .02 but i am interested in the IH pump without that high price

As in a regular motorcraft pump with a seperate, standalone.coolant.filtration kit? If so, that recommendation totally makes oblivious every advantage of using the IH part. And the biggest discrepancy? A total POS water pump.

If you mean something else, explain!

I had to change out my water pump a few weeks ago. I was in a crunch and didn't have time to think about the IH pump. I had to settle for a unit from Advanced Auto....we'll see how long that lasts....

The best price I have found SO FAR for a official Alliant branded pump is $230

There are a number of advantages over the stock Ford pumps:

Its a stronger over-all unit as its iron not.

It has a built in bypass filter which no matter how you cut it is a MUCH cleaner install then any remote install.

You now have how many new places for leaks to occur. At every fitting there is a possibility of leaking.

The remote if you follow traditional install bypasses the t-stat. The IH unit being built in does not.

Its not taking up extra room which there is limited space to begin with doubly if you have extra parts already in there for turbos etc.

If you add the cost of the remote filter to the cost of a stock pump its costs just as much as the IH pump. Then add in the costs if you really want to do it right with flow cut off valves and it actually costs a bit more than what you can find for a Alliant brand pump and still even with the very nice billet mount the fittings that are used look rather home built. But to use others would move the price too much. You have none of the that with the IH unit as its all in one.

$230 IH unit

$120 Airtex unit (OEM manf for ford) (price on the net)
$220 From Ford with fleet discount last time I checked
+ $109 bypass
+ $18 ball valves
$247/$350 Not exactly cheap at all and in fact a Pump from IH themselves is about the same cost as a pump from Ford plus the diesel site bypass kit. So its a wash.

You can now use the traditional short stem T-stats so you can have your choice at the local parts store of 180-195-203-205 whatever temp t-stats. No need to special order to get a dif temp.

You basically have what the manf of the engine meant for the engine to have on it. That is usually a better bet than from a Company that is looking at ways to cut costs and make more $$ for out of warranty work on the back end.

If you need extra coolant attachment points such as turbo cooling you have extra ports on the pump that can be used.

But a huge one is duty life. It may be because the bypass or likely a combo of that along with better bearings and less flex and expansion than the light cast alum units Ford chose. But in the end they flat out last hundreds of thousands of miles versus Ford units that can last anywhere from 60-120K max on average. But just long enough to get past the factory warranty. How convenient hmmmmm

I just can not see the down side of going with a IH unit. It goes doubly if you do not have a bypass yet as there is no loss to deal with.

These were my exact thoughts when I bought one of these pumps for my OBS. After a week of no returned calls or emails from other vendors I gave up and bought one from Diesel Specialties - who by the way were very pleasant and professional to deal with.

I have one suggestion for anyone installing one of these pumps. Do yourself a favor and replace the shut off valve o-ring with a quality Viton one. IIIRC it's a -205. After a year the original o-ring was leaking and when I finally replaced it a few weeks ago it was all soft and gooey. The valve is only held in with a snap ring and is easier to do before you install than later on.

Also I don't know how much room you SD guys have around the water pump but on the OBS trucks the area around the coolant filter is fairly tight. Lisle makes a nice wide band filter wrench you use with a long 1/2 extension. Makes changing the coolant filter much easier.
