Finally got an email back, they claim the water pumps are new but they are not alliant pumps.

Peroni,

Thanks for the info. I found a place that is within a couple hours that has the Alliant IH pump for $230 otherwise my choice from checking was also Diesel Specialties. Very good info on the oring. I will get the viton version and do it with the install.

I will have to check on the clearance with the filter but will go that route if needed.

I have a new ford Tstat housing are they the same for this pump as well or do I need a IH version? If they are the same I will likely pick up one of the rings or a billet housing.

Tycorr,

I look forward to seeing how those pumps compare. That company seems to be a BIG name in the bus industry so they likely are good. I did some searches on them and that company is EVERYWHERE it seems on the net as well as brick and motar so that a good thing.

I have been upgrading just about everything I can since I have the how front pulled out. Yanked all the coolers out. The IC as well. The rad and fan clutch etc.. Only thing I left in was the AC condenser. Best to keep those where they are at as fins get bent so easy and the seals can leak with movement at times. Need to find a good tool to straighten the fins that large bug hits bent.

I had to fully flush my Coolant system anyways so this is a good time to swap the pump with everything being apart. A well meaning mechanic thought he was doing me a favor and dumped a bottle of SCAs additive in the system. He did not realize that my coolant being red not green might be a indicator that I was running a ELC. That nicely screwed the $160 worth of CAT ELC coolant I had flushed my system with last year Grrrr. Even though the Airtex brand ford type pump is fairly new I figured now was as good of time as any to swap in the IH pump. After all I would be spending $120+ to do the remote bypass filter the way I would want with good hydraulic JIC and compression fittings

Looking over the other threads on the conversion one thing has kind got me thinking abit.

Why did IH add that extra pulley in there?

Now is it possible it was just not thought of by the designers to not use it and Ford designers were able to looking at the original design see it could be deleted? Sure I guess that is possible. Or it could be that there are some other accessories in some IH uses where its needed and thus set them all up that way. Again I guess its possible.

But if I am seeing the pic correctly of where the pulley is added does it not change the angles and amount of belt contact with the pump pulley compared to the Ford way? Could this change the amount of stress put on the pump bearings given the shaft stress is that specific angle? Maybe someone with one could answer this better. I am thinking in terms of bearing longevity. That is the only part I want to nail down before I pull the trigger and start ordering all the parts.

Tstat housing is the same, bolt pattern and size are the same. You should be good to go.

Getting ready to order all my parts right now. Will see if my local hydraulic shop I get all my fittings and hose for the fuel systems from has those steel fittings. I may look online and see if I can find them as well.

On topic ,but.slightly off.on a tangent, what is the best ELC to use? Cat sounds pretty good. Ive heard chevron.makes good stuff too. Im already rehearsed in the flushing.procedure. Air is your friend.

Also has anybody used flexible radiator hose? Its got a rubber coating but has a spiral spiine running.around it. Would.be.cleaner looking.than the cummins hose that "fits". Im not sure if.its.heavy.duty enough for a diesel.cooling system. Lets face it, superduties have tremendous cooling.capacity!

I have settled on CAT for the last few years now.

Negative on the flex hose. Well not since the 80s LOL I would stick with a normal hose if it were me.

Tarm-the dodge hose has a spring inside it already. I know.because I.have one. Im NOT doing the elc this.time around. Its.gonna be peak 150k mile coolant for now.

Im still waiting on the 45° fittings. Rest of the chit is.painted, ready to go.

Well, drained the coolant last night. Got.caught on the fan clutch nut. Bought a set of "ford fan clutch wrenches" and the wrenc is.the wrong.size. Biggest wrench I have is 1-7/16.

I found some oil in my coolant :( . Im gonna order some brass inj cups and hope that fixes it. Can the oil.cooler allow coolant and oil to mix? Or is it safe to assume its an inj cup?

I have NOT pulled.my motor out as I was planning to do but it looks.like it might be a good.idea at this point. Nothing crazy, just a ford rebuild kit. Studs, 910 springs, and some.upgraded p-rods.

I thought fuel in the coolant was an indication of a bad injector cup?

I suppose either. What are you thinking then? Oil.cooler or head gasket?

Edit:the oil cooler is.part of the overhaul kit. New cooler, not.just.the orings. That'd be.nice. Keep one clean, painted, rebuilt, and ready to.go on.

Anybody? TARM, where does oil get the opportunity to mix with coolant? Inj cups, oil cooler, head gasjets, or cracked.block.

Yep Oil cooler as well. Since you have the pump out you can easily get to the front side of the cooler so now is the time to do it. Take the time and clean it up well. Maybe hit it with some rattle can.

Im tempted to.order a rebuild kit from Clay and put all new seals, oil.cooler, headgaskets, pistons(up to .030" over), and a whole bunch other stuff for a grand. Part of.me.wants to.r&r the cooling.system and get the truck back on the road. Like to.get the body work done this year.

Thanks Tarm and peroni for the input.

I would do the rebuild kit on the oil cooler. If you can have it down pull it first and see the condition all the hard parts are in.
