Is a transmission swap possible

Had a 7.3 and simply loved it. Looking to get a new one my only complaint was that it had a 4 speed automatic with a overdrive. Does anyone know of a five speed or even six speed auto swap?

Welcome to the site.
Check out the 7.3 aftermarket forum, as well as west point (reference material).
And yes, it's possible to change from auto to manual, but why would you?
Downgrade, imo.

It involves a lot of work - but I do have an adapter plate and flexplate to bolt an Allison 1000 from a Chevy Duramax to a 7.3. I purchased the components for a project that never came to fruition.

I assume you use a PCS to control it?

You could program a PCS or just use the transmission computer that normally runs them. They are normally controlled by their own computer instead of jointly controlled by the same computer running the engine like in our application. You just need to get the right signals to either the PCS or the factory Allison computer. Both are doable.

I imagine most people doing transmission swaps are high powered and looking to go fast. An Allison will not be as fast as a 4R100 when it comes to racing applications. For a DD type truck or one towing frequently an Allison is a good choice - but those are least likely to actually make an involved swap.

Since I poked my nose in earlier,lol.
How involved would it be to wire up the pcs to these? I did some searching back when I replaced my zf, but that was geared towards the 4r. Similar, or no?
How much do you have wrapped up in the adaptor and flexplate?

I'd sell the adapter, flex plate, and a brand new gear reduction starter to make it all work for $1000. I have WAY more than that in the parts, but I have no plans on using these any time soon and I need to clean out the shop for more important projects.
