do you have anything with a 1157 base, in red?

I have smoked lenses on my 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide Special, and I need Red bulbs that can be dim for running, and be super bright for turning and braking.

ok...I'll try them...but understand...I do product testing....I will give a full write up between 3 brands....I am being sent a kit from Custom Dynamics

so I'll be testing:
stock
Retrosolutions
Custom Dynamics

I only test "apples to apples"....so I will have to contact the other supplier to send a SMD plug and play kit...which by the Retrosolutions kit appears to be 5050 SMD

Unfortunately the bulbs available for 1156/1157 fitments are not the brightest type of bulb we offer in other fitments.

It's surprising...every company is the same way....I guess there isn't much call for bright 1157 or 2357 type bulbs.

Everywhere I look online, motorcycle people all have the same complaints....not bright at all...or....can't really tell the difference between running and brake function

If someone made a 1157 bulb that was bright red while running(1/3 power), and super bright when brake is applied(full power)....they would corner the market..

If you want to build something like that...I'd love to test them

There are not too many applications out there that use the particular bulb type much anymore. They are more common in older model vehicles for the most part.

Not completely true...nearly every single motorcycle on the planet, new & old is 1156 &1157......that is why all us motorcyclist are suffering....no one makes anything that is sufficient.
My 1996 Harley all the way to my 2015 Harley , and all metric bikes are 1157 & 1156.
...that is why I said that anyone that would make one would corner the market.

Google it..

The problems motorcyclist are having is:
1. No options
2. Not a big enough difference of brightness between running and brake.
3. Need a minimum of 180° viewing angle
4. Color options...red(rear), white(rear), Amber(front)

Here are our options:

Bright enough...but only viewable from directly behind....not good.

180° viewable...but no real difference between running and when the brake is depressed...not safe

I have a few brothers that would like a better option....and I'm sure the other couple thousand motorcycle clubs, and millions of other riders would too.

OK Jeremy.....here's the opposition....which failed horribly.

Autocarcare 18SMD red bulbs ($6ea) and Cutequeen 24SMD red bulbs($8ea)....
......both claiming to be "super bright" or "ridiculously bright"

both did not fit directly, and needed to be ground down to fit into the 1157 housing.

sooooo....if you have a RED LED/SMD bulb for a 1157, that is as bright as a stock bulb...OR BRIGHTER....let me know...

....or if you would like to build one....I would love to be your beta tester...

Just a question for you that may help somewhat with either of those products.... did you check their output levels with the engine running? The higher charging voltage will mean an increase in the output. In case that helps any with evaluating those.

Unfortunately, because of the design of the bulbs used by the manufacturer for the super wedge bulb product, they won't fit to work with 1156/1157 bases. We here were able to hack them once for an 1157 base and not only was it a pain to do, but took quite some time. All we can do is ask if they can look into a different bulb that can be used with the 1156/1157.

Thanks for the quick response..

The pictures were taken with the bike running, so voltage isn't the issue, output is.

I've searched for other options, and there just doesn't seem to be any.
Halogen isn't an option, because it runs too hot, and people have melted their light housings.

So what you're saying is....I'm screwed...lol

The housings are extremely small, very ergonomic, no room for anything....and I'm not "rigging" something on my $30k Harley

Have you thought about ruling trailer lights. Some of the LEDs on our trailers will blind you and they look about the sa,e size.

I don't think duct taping trailer lights will look good.

...as you can see by the bulb I'm holding, not much room in the one piece housing to retrofit a different socket.

Tank, zilla68 might be on to something there. Can you take a photo of the socket for the bulb?

The search is over...I would have rather bought from a sponsor here.

JDM 1157 LED super bright(finally a bulb that isn't false advertisement)...$35 a set.

The shoulder still had to be ground down a little to fit...but...wow
