Yes that is what it is.
I drove mine last night. Turbo really comes on strong right about 1750RPM's.
2,000 RPM's = 75/76mph give or take. 35" tires, 3.73 gears.
What tunes have you tried btw? I've been running Extreme X for a while and it seems to keep the truck out of overdrive until it can really use it. It locks the converter as soon as it shifts to 5th gear and uses it for 6th (OD) as well. With the converter locked in 5th, it can pretty much pull out of any situation, but like you said in 6th is when it will lug, but with this tune it really wont shift in very easy, has to be pretty perfect circumstances.
I put Extreme Street back in last night though and that will shift into 6th with the converter locked much easier.
Using tow/haul also eliminates this issue completely for me as it pushes overdrive out until about 65mph so it really can't get under the turbo at that point for me.
I'm definitely at lower elevation than you as well, I'm guessing. I basically am running at near sea level and up to maybe 1500 feet by home.
I think if you go re-read my initial review post, you'll find I felt kind of the same way. It's just adapting to a different driving style. You find ways to keep the turbo going without falling on it's face etc. You sort of just get used to it. I'm sure my elevation is helping me too. Though I still suspect you had transmission issues possibly. I'll be really interested to see what happens when you get that converter re-stalled.
When is the trans going back in? I'm interested to see how it runs with a proper transmission and converter in it.
Only one way to find out...
If I'm not mistaken, fluid temp rises 100 degrees for every second you are on the foot or trans brake...ugh, yea, except now I'm scared ill break something again. lol
but at the same time, I know now, how NOT to try and get the turbo to lite at the line. don't just hold the brake and floor it and wait for days on end for it to light, prob better to just ease into it till it lights. lol
