A piece of scrap steel, a couple hours on a lathe, #12 drill for the shaft, and a 4-40 setscrew. and now I have a headlight knob that doesn't fall off every other time I use it.

Just need to coat it with something to keep it from rusting. I'm just not sure what to use because I want to keep the natural shiny look of the steel.

Funny post you keep scrolling down and down trying to figure what it is about.

Looks like someone needs a 4 hole gauge pod.

Looks good, how long did that take you?

Including scrounging around for the bar big enough diameter, probably 3-4 hours. A lot of that was polishing because the cutting tool insert was leaving some pretty good sized marks. it was the last insert we had for that tool, so it had to keep going.

What!!! You mean my existing custom mount isn't good enough?!?!?!
Oh, that's right, I forgot. You're "He Who's Garage Floor Can Be Eaten Off Of". :priest:

looks good bud. wish i had the equip to do that kinda stuff

I wish I did too. I did it at my dad's place over the weekend when I was there. Lathe is something like a 16-18" swing over rails, and 72" bed IIRC. But there's no way that would fit in the garage at my apt.

Looks good Dan. I wish you would have said something I would have gotten you a piece of stainless then you wouldn't have had to worry about coating it. If you ever want to use a lathe I have one in my basement. It is not the best but it cuts alright.

I may take you up on that in the future.

i agree. Or get it chromed. cheap enough at any chrome shop.

I think I'll probably just hit it with some rattle can clear coat. I really did this intending to just whip out a quick replacement because I'm too cheap to buy a new knob from ford. It just turned out a whole lot nicer than I initially intended.
Had I not found that piece of emery cloth, we wouldn't be having this thread.
