My barn has more horsepower than my truck.

7.3 is expensive to mod. To get to anything the cr guys make. Just build it. One component at a time. Its all in the tech section. And it shouldn't bother you if someone else has more HP. There's always someone who has more HP.

I enjoy watching him run the hell out of his truck. Those twin turbos sound awesome when he spools up. Waiting on him to blow it.

Well then build a forged rod motor with 250/200s and a gtx 4294. Lotta work but if you have the coin go for it.

Why is everybody concerned with high hp? You can only really use 400. Thats for short periods. If you put.400 through the driveline sustained, you'll melt the friggin rearend out of it, probably boil the trans out, and everything will get toasty.

Unless of course you dont use it then you can run 500+ through it and probably break stuff once in a while. After hearing about people twisting the guts out of their bts in a daily driver with 550 hp, I kinda lost interest.

Maybe I misunderstood, but are you guys actually using your trucks? Or just building a stoplight racer?

If you wanna race, buy a different truck with cr injection. 7.3 is a worktruck. 38r and some single shots or small hybrids and go towing. Having sat down and tallied up.what it would.take to have a 550hp truck its not.really worth it. Again, unless your truck is a toy. To reiterate also, if your goal is to play, there are many other.choices. A 6.4 or even 6L.

Now, you COULD build a kickass truck with a 7.3. Get a later model cc/lb lariat or swap in some.kr seats. Then billet rods, fire-rings, and maybe a stg1 cam and headwork. Throw some.headers, some compounds, and a billet trans behind it. Build coolers for the diffs, the fuel, upgrade the one.for.the trans. Basically bulletproof and engineer cooling for everything. Have a higher hp travel/towrig/camper hauler and hit the road.

Just seems like you could do that too.with a 6.4 with intake, exhaust, and tunes. And it would probably be.more reliable too.

ty, you talking to me?

Not necessarily. Just an observation. I mean you get a cr truck and do.what we call "support mods" and it makes 500rwhp. Daily driveable. No rods to worry about. No bts to buy. No bs to do. All I was saying.

This.doesnt mean im going back to stock or run stg 1s. Im just looking for a setup.that runs well and wont necessitate a built motor. Even then, as Charles has demonstrated several times since Ive been around, those trans arent bulletproof. Hes stripped this,.blown that, snapped input shafts....pretty obvious that even though those things will hold 1k+ in race apps a 5-600hp truck.will **** one up when used daily. Thats unappealing.

Would I settle for a slightly lower hp # to avoid that? You bet. Well, hell, I told you my plans. So you get it.

I realize.how nice it is to just get in, turn the key, and.drive.

I'd rather spend 5k a year on repairs ( 450$ monthly payment ) and have a truck that's simple to use, and something that I can work on . I'm far from being a genius, but I have a good understanding of how this system works, and am capable of doin about anything. I don't have to worry about warranty, plus the look on my friends face when I stomp their New truck with a 10 year old "dead platform" truck is priceless

thats the best part, dead platform, lol... it is funny that most people i know or work with dont do anything to their trucks... they mostly have a muscle car in the garage at home or back in the day had one that was bad ass... so i end up surprising a lot of guys... on here, no, no one is surprised but for most of use we understand what it takes to make these heavy ass trucks move... the high hp guys of the site are the only ones who laugh at me/us.... but not often do they do cuz for the most part they say, gotta start somewhere.

I'm.with Ty...I once had dreams of a 500rw 7.3, but after looking at the money spent, and what you get, and piddly crap you tear up along the way...not worth it. I've got my toys, and I like the reliability, and fuel economy of my stock 7.3. It's not fast, but it has zero problems keeping up with traffic towing, it's comfy, and has a very loud stereo system in it. What more do I need from a daily driver? Maybe once something gets tired or fails, I will upgrade it, who knows? Hell, I just put a oem muffler on it..i like the quiet, tired of noisy diesels anymore, maybe I'm getting old?

I too have 3 kids, but I'm not pinching pennies trying to avoid taking meals off their plates or clothes off their backs, if you can match my income in 3 days, I am.changing career fields. My wife and I are fixing to make advancements in our career fields, pay wise, and free time wise, and currently have an income well in the six figure range. (not touting, just saying, you NEVER know who is on the other end of the internet when you mouth off about things. Hell, at 25 I had $300k/yr 1099's, and being young and single..I spent it like it was stolen and I was trying to hide the evidence.

If you want high hp, and to have a lot of fun with, reliability is going to up the cost, doing it right the first time is ALWAYS cheaper than skimping the first time. I'm working on a 700rw recipe for my '09 GT, and the blower alone is $7k, but it's cheaper than running a smaller headunit spun to it's limits constantly, and having no room to grow later on.

Fun Daily driver without being a maintenance pig...

AC injectors, stock nozzle
38R with a RiffRaff Compressor wheel
Intake
Exhaust
Isspro Gauges
Tuning...

Done.

Might add a good Valve body to that mix and or start saving for a tranny.

That will give you a 350-400hp truck, that is fun to drive, will tow anything and will suprise the hell out of anyone behind the wheel.

Yep,

400HP is a real fun daily driver that will keep you and your wallet happy. Trying to make big HP with a 7.3 will hurt a lot. And it will keep on hurting.

I actually have done some of Powerstrokeguy's mods to my truck. I found them by working on my truck though, not from watching him.
