OP,
You realized that you posted this on a site were the majority of the people probably want/drive 500+ whp trucks. Something like this isn't going to get them real excited.
That being said, ignorance is bliss in my case. When I finally get around to doing anything to my truck I will probably feal the same way you do. Actually looking forward to it now. Thanks again for posting. Now you just need to run some gearhead or someone else's tunes and do a follow up camparo post.
True. But apparently not as many people actually bought the shti to do it or something because it has lost its luster fairly quick. I bolted all that crap on inside a year when I finally decided to mod mine and until injectors with 200% nozzles it seemed silly compared to my quiet, cr daily driver.
I hate to say it but if you arent a fledgling tuner or plan to use the truck related capabilities for what they were intended trying to do anything much more than 450 whp is a waste of time.
Can a 250/2 setup work for all the regular truck stuff? Yes it absolutely can. But it seems mildly retarded having done all this and not being able to really use the power indefinitely.
When my truck is towing im using power levels that a 160/30 would be in its element making. I retained the 38r as it lights great for my use. I dont need issues until im able to find a 2 lane that allows me 45mph speeds.
So having said that if I were going to build a bro truck to rip around town on a saturday night id throw a 250/200-38r combo in it. Or a 300/300-s468 combo.. get close to 6 hundo and the former will be a tire burning street truck. The other will too but more top end.
If towing and having a work truck is your deal id first minimize weight of the vehicle. Get a rclb, ecsb, or eclb. Put a fuel system in it(not for fuel pressure so much as the filtration), valve springs, pushrods (if you feel they are worthwhile), a built trans, some 160/30s and possibly a t500 or something similar and away you go. Have a hot tune written and with a 38r it'll be mindless use. More power than a new stock truck has. And for towing and ease of use the new psd, dmax, or cummins is easy peasy. Turn the key and go.
Modding these trucks is fine but they are getting so old you are facing the possibility that you will have issues finding cps and stuff before much longer.
But im keeping mine either way
