OP,

You realized that you posted this on a site were the majority of the people probably want/drive 500+ whp trucks. Something like this isn't going to get them real excited.

That being said, ignorance is bliss in my case. When I finally get around to doing anything to my truck I will probably feal the same way you do. Actually looking forward to it now. Thanks again for posting. Now you just need to run some gearhead or someone else's tunes and do a follow up camparo post.

True. But apparently not as many people actually bought the shti to do it or something because it has lost its luster fairly quick. I bolted all that crap on inside a year when I finally decided to mod mine and until injectors with 200% nozzles it seemed silly compared to my quiet, cr daily driver.

I hate to say it but if you arent a fledgling tuner or plan to use the truck related capabilities for what they were intended trying to do anything much more than 450 whp is a waste of time.

Can a 250/2 setup work for all the regular truck stuff? Yes it absolutely can. But it seems mildly retarded having done all this and not being able to really use the power indefinitely.

When my truck is towing im using power levels that a 160/30 would be in its element making. I retained the 38r as it lights great for my use. I dont need issues until im able to find a 2 lane that allows me 45mph speeds.

So having said that if I were going to build a bro truck to rip around town on a saturday night id throw a 250/200-38r combo in it. Or a 300/300-s468 combo.. get close to 6 hundo and the former will be a tire burning street truck. The other will too but more top end.

If towing and having a work truck is your deal id first minimize weight of the vehicle. Get a rclb, ecsb, or eclb. Put a fuel system in it(not for fuel pressure so much as the filtration), valve springs, pushrods (if you feel they are worthwhile), a built trans, some 160/30s and possibly a t500 or something similar and away you go. Have a hot tune written and with a 38r it'll be mindless use. More power than a new stock truck has. And for towing and ease of use the new psd, dmax, or cummins is easy peasy. Turn the key and go.

Modding these trucks is fine but they are getting so old you are facing the possibility that you will have issues finding cps and stuff before much longer.

But im keeping mine either way :)

Yep. however, I like my 250/200 and H2E combo. With Tony's tow tune, it has lots of power, lights quick, and will get you sideways from a 45 MPH romp if you aint' careful, smoke is all but not there unless you get stupid.

If you twist it up to race, it is a smoky biatch, but who cares at the track, it does clean up (mostly) once the turbo lights.

In the tow tune, it can do everything a stock truck can, but a lot better, it's the way it shoulda been off the showroom floor.

Dat whistle tho! It would cut through the cab and sing OVER your exhaust and radio trying to keep up with the crazy bastard.

Don't get him started on dyno hp! LOL

Same turbo setup. I heard them from my truck...

I liked Charles setup. I think part of thecreadon it was a terror was the relatively lightweight of the rclb. Not that 650hp wasnt going to make a crewcab feel more nimble. It seemed to aleays have a wrench near it too, which was kinda my point. Badass? Yes. Practical for 99% of the people that have bought a 7.3? ***k no.

Yep, anytime I was following, it was all I could hear in my truck. It was a fun truck, but not my style for DD hauling the kids lol.

Agreed on the weight. The new setup just won't have the same feel. I don't think doing the same setup today would lead to as much wrenching down the road as it did for the red truck, for a number of reasons, but that's neither here nor there.

99% of people also don't drive that way. I've never seen someone so consistently hard on their truck.

I wish I could get as excited about this kind of thing as I used to. In 2003 when these forums were in their infancy I bought a new 7.3 f350 black sport. At ten thousand miles I took the engine out and put in forged rods a fuel system, diesel innovations mini me injectors, water meth, modded idm, suncoast convertor, etc. It was fun and I was in my early 20's. 476 at the wheels in 2004. I should have kept it but just grew out of it I guess.

^^that setup must've turned some heads back then.

Ya it was pretty hot. 2nd place ford dyno at DHRA Thunder in Muncie. Swamps had the same setup with nitrous and beat it by a few hp. Beat Brian Bunting at his event in Iowa on the dyno to win 500.00. This was in 2004/2005 good times.

I was there. 2006 ish at Davids shop before the dhra event. Good times.
I was 13 in 2006 if it makes you old bastards feel any better.

Diesel performance reminds me of country music, I wish I would've came out the womb earlier so I could've enjoyed the good stuff instead of all the bro country and coal orallers we have today. I'm listening to Waylon and watching 7.3 videos......

Ive been around but didnt really do any forum shti until 08 or 09....modded my truck in 11... put it to where it is now in fall/winter of 12 and spring of 13.

Quite a bit of the "good" stuff happened in 11 and 12 as far as tuning goes on the 7.3. A 250/200 is average now and it was a big deal a couple years ago lol .

I remember sitting in HS searching the forums then about my 88 that never would start right lol
