Also funny is the fact that the 6.4 is loaded with emissions junk and its spewed more crap than the 5.9 and 7.3 I drove previously put together.

Even more reason to have deleted it. The same facts where out here then as they are now.

The engine has issues because of the emissions crap. I just bought a 6.7 Cummins dodge. Bone stock with emissions and all. I owned the pickup 2 days before the check engine light came on. Guess what... Dpf sensor ans issues. It won't regen manually or passive. BUT... I knew the issues ahead if buying it so I already had the deletes ready to go. It was stated to help you last year, you chose to not take the advice. Now since its the cause od tour current trouble there's no room for you to complain.

That said, I want you to hurry up and finish this swap cause I love he 6.7 Cummins but like the ford body better than the dodge.

There isn't anyone on here that actually believes that these trucks can go that far without deletes or high maintenance.

You forgot about the issues not related to emissions like the HPFP, rocker arms and occassionally, head gaskets.

Sorry I'm so pi$$y today, but this was the last thing I needed right now.

During regen you're just seeing all the ash burn off, its no different then the DPF equipped Dmax or Cummins in that aspect. A DPF failure its self really isn't a "major" failure, while it renders the truck in limp mode its nothing that replacing the DPF wouldn't fix. You can find new DPF's all day long for under 500.00 shipped.

A LOT of that can be attributed to the regen process, higher cylinder pressures, a lot more heat, high back pressure all take there toll on engine parts. Its no secret that these engines last a lot longer without all of the choked down parts strapped to them. No one is trying to beat you up on it, but I nor anyone else that I know of sees the logic in continuing to drive a truck with a known clogged DPF when the fix is cheap quick and easy. Like I said under 500 and you could have a good condition used DPF, and after about 30 minutes of your time you would be up and running again.

HPFP fail because people dont service the fuel filters often enough, rocker arms fail because of oil dilution from continual regen, head gaskets primarily fail because of a failed egr cooler caused from a failed oil cooler because people don't change the oil often enough

Lack of maintenance and emissions equipment is what kills these engines

Sucks to hear of your troubles. I got rid of my cummins dodge because the pos truck kept breaking down. I know its frustrating. Sounds like you need to tune and delete for now to prevent further issues and until you have time for your swap. Best of luck to you.

I hear the 6.7L Cummins blows head gaskets just about as fast as a 6.0..... Why???? Because of the emissions junk. The 6.7 is to me a junky engine compared to the 5.9.. That is in till you delete it. the 6.4 would be a completely different engine if you would delete it.. that is facts plain and simple. That goes for every emissions laden diesel engines as a whole. Even the big rigs with the new emission compliant diesel engine have nothing but troubles....

Face the facts. If you have a emissions laden engine expect trouble i do no care the make or model.

My old truck pulled it OK, but it had a full load when you got into headwinds and/or pulled in mountains. The engine in my old truck was stock 325/610.

With my new setup, I'm looking for effortless cruising under all conditions with good fuel economy. I'm hoping that between the increased engine power/torque and better gear ratios in the 6R140, ie pulling in 5th gear, that it gets me there.

The trailer has grown a bit since that picture. It now sports an extra kayak or two and a big rear rack loaded with stuff. And solar panels. And sometimes I pull a very small boat behind, depending on what the local jurisdictions allow.

Your trailer looks in awesome condition.. Perfect one for enjoying long trip with whole family..I would love to get one soon for my family..

If you want all this go buy a MDT. My Sister-In laws trains horse for a living 3yrs ago she trade in her 01 7.3l that would pull her 4 horse gooseneck trailer "well" to a 2010 6.4 dually f-350. It pulled it better but any head or gross wind and she was fitting the truck. After the truck left her stranded 1200 miles from home with 4 horse sitting on the Interestate in heat she started looking at other options.

She ended up with a FL70 4 door truck. Her only complaint is she didnt do it sooner. It gets the same MPG as her 7.3l(6.4 was 3-4mpg less then the 7.3) and pulls way better then 6.4 ever did.

In my opinion some off these big 5th wheel like you have are just too big for a standard 1-ton truck.

You can throw a Cummings in it with the best of everything put you are still left with a 1-ton truck that's a bastard child that will be worth penny's on the dollar.

Just some more practical experience that I'm sure you wont listen to.

Not to start a pissing match, but when we had our 00 7.3 CCSB dually, it pulled a 35ft 5th wheel with ease, while returning moderate mileage (about 13 mpg).
The new 6.7 does even better, getting about 15, depending on the road and weather.
Or pulling a 30 foot tri axle gooseneck with the new 6.7 (Ford 6.7), the trailer pulls heavy but still gets around 14.
Now if that doesn't satisfy you, you either A) Need a smaller trailer or B) Something much bigger than a SRW 1 ton.

They do make 1.5 tons trucks called 450's or 550 series. I know cause I own a 96 F Super Duty and says 1.5 tons on title. Geared in at 4:63 max speed is 60 mph at 2500 RPM though managed to pull a 40' high cube (9.5') tall shipping container 2800 miles across the US that was converted into a travel trailer. Slowest speed was 20 mph going up Cabbage Hill with stock engine and survived driving across Arizona/Nevada deserts in middle July without overheating.

I'm still alive.

I've been too busy with kids, renovating, honey-do lists and life to do anything with my swap. But I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel as to when I can start working on it again.

I've still got my F350, its got 160K on it now. I still love it except for the engine.

I just read through the whole thread and think the project is going to end up pretty awesome when done. I was wondering why not start with a F450 or F550 for the base truck to stretch? It would eliminate all the naysayers logic in having the gvcwr maxed after the stretch. You are planning on changing the suspension so make the heavier duty truck ride how you want. If you also change the rim and tire combo, remove the 450/550 badges then you could potentially slip under the radar of the heavier duty truck.

I've not done anything but change the oil.
So I guess you should have just bough an MDT and joined the "craze"

How does this have anything to do with this thread? It is a decent swap - that I will agree with - but the general consensus is that the OP should just delete his truck while he is gathering the parts for a MUCH more difficult swap than the one in the link you posted.

Basically, the guy goes to pirate and bashes everybody who buys a mediun duty to pull big loads, says they are idiots etc. Meanwhile hes trying to reinvent the wheel to build a truck that will pull a travel trailer..when he already has one that will do it. Its a big "you're an idiot, i'm right" chest pounding parade.

I never got the billy big rig BS with pickup trucks. I like having the right tool for the job, and there is nothing you can tow with a pickup that you can't tow better with a medium duty truck. If you want to tow heavy, step your game up!
