Since I got the truck back on week later (7 days 175/miles) I am doing a oil change. I go to remove the filter same as before just as tight tried sand paper, strap wrench and nothing I am turning it towards the frame it was still warm from running earlier. I call the mechanic who did the work he personally did everything on the truck and has no idea why it is doing this not once has this happened that he has seen personally or recalled. I am at odds why this is happening I do see yes common factor is me but I take my time and double check the stuff I do. He will take time to look it over this week or next to be sure the cap(new) is not the issue on his time part of his warranty.

So curious...why are you messing with a filter that only has 175 miles on it?

The filter isn't going to tighten itself, no way, no how. When you got the first boogered up filter off, did you inspect the threads on the stud?

The guy that did the cooler recommended it because he did a half dozen system flushes and still could not get it all out. I am turning the same way the drain plug came out. I am leaving it be he is going to deal with it.

You still didn't answer my question...did you check the threads? Did you run a die over them to make certain they were clean an correct?

To be completely honest, there are vehicles that the oil filter will sort of tighten up on. We have several trucks in specific at work that are terrible about this. Mack titans and granites to be exact, the mp8 and mp10 engines. We only hand tighten the oil and fuel filters, and every service, we break oil filter wrenches on them. Its ridiculous. However, these are the only two engines I've really seen this happen to. Ill bet the previous owner tightned the hell out of your filter. You may have to hammer a heel bar through the filter, that always works when a filter is stupid tight for me.

Must play devils advocate here...how many times have your heard of this issue on a 7.3? In the 8 years I've been a member of various forums, I've never heard of this issue and I certainly haven't had it happen on any of the vehicles I've been around

I hand tighten mine every time. It leaks a little bit and I leave it alone. Only a couple drips. Never a noticeable amount on the dipstick. Only thing I've ever had to do to get it off was a screwdriver through the side. Comes out pretty easy every time with the screwdriver. Them I drop the filter in the oil drain pan and splash myself with hundred degree oil. But that's another story.

Like I said, I don't ever really remember this happening to me, other than the two engines I named. But I still wouldn't be suprised if the mechanic put a filter wrench on it to tighten it. We have an older mechanic at work that ALWAYS tightens them up on everything. You can't tell the guy anything. Then when someone else has to do the next service, we end up breaking filter wrenches, and I **** you not, I've bent 1/2" thick heel bars getting his filters off.

I allways gave a half a turn with the wrench otherwise the filter would leak and never had a problem getting them back off.. The outer shell of a Motorcraft 1995 is stronger than some of the aftermarket ones.. I allways poked a hole in the bottom of the filter before removing it..

are you/your mechanic running a layer of oil on the o-ring @ the top of the filter?

I've seen dry o-rings swell when the oil hits them...so if they're tight with a dry o-ring..they'll be a MFr later.
