I have the 17" FTE, I keep going from having it off, to on, to off. Can't make up my mind. I guess I'm still too young and like it loud lol but it definitely killed the inside cab noise a lot. I just love the way this truck sounds with a non VGT so it's been on for maybe a total of 4 weeks.

How did you install yours that it's so easy to remove and install?

It fits almost perfectly where the flo pro piece is before the axle where the flo pro muffler would go. My exhaust actually fits better with the resonator in since its a couple inches shorter than the flo pro piece. I've got to get my exhaust just right so it's not vibrating on my B&W gooseneck frame.

that's the best picture I can get right now. But that piece comes out, resonator goes in.
I have to take the rear part of the exhaust all he way apart to do it. I think they say the closer you get it to the downpipe the better it works but I wasn't about to cut up my exhaust if I knew I was going to be taking it on and off. Works perfect for me.

The resonator is supposed to be installed as far forward as possible. This is to achieve breaking up the sound wave as much as possible under the cab. And leave you with a rich tone out of the tip.

Yea, but it works where he and i put it to pass a visual inspection in the event that you need to do that. And it still works to eliminate some of the drone.

Go study sound resonation.

Regarding sound waves. It's like a guitar string. Stopping the resonate frequency before it gets to far down the line. Which would be stopping it as far forward as one can.

This is not a rear exit muffler. It's a resonator to kill frequency. The spiral design of it matches the the wave length to knock out the drone. Which is why you put it as far forward as possible for cab noise reduction.

I put the 30" FTE on my truck, when it had the 5" exhaust. It wiped out the drone and the sound, too quiet in my opinion. If I were to do it again, I'd buy the 17" with a 5" exhaust.

And like posted above, I was advised to install it as close to the downpipe as possible.

Glad to here that. This confirms I need the 30"

I ordered the 17. Will install when it comes tomorrow and report back. I'll be towing my big ice Castle with a boat behind this weekend, that's a true test to see if the drone is dead. It was deafening pulling just the house.

That science stuff is all good and dandy and i do know that a resonator is not a muffler. However I can tell you from living in a state that requires a muffler on vehicle during a visual inspection, that this will pass for one from a visual standpoint. Most don't check anyway. And since i had drone in my cab before I put a resonator in the muffler location, and I don't have drone now, I can say that it is still effective in eliminating some of the drone, even in a further downstream location.

To each his own. Just didn't want anyone thinking the ideal spot to put a resonator was in the mufflers location.

Same here, I removed the resonator and installed a flow through muffler that's looks similar to the mbrp but a different brand and I'm much happier. The 30" was to quiet for me.

Is there proof that it doesn't hinder flow?

I'll probably be ordering the 17in

Do it so I can hear it in person, I can't decide if I want one or not...

I have nothing scientific, but I noticed no power loss in seat of the pants and no change in egts...

I have had a 30" on and off my truck and now on the dually. It still has a throaty sound at the tip, but the truck sounds virtually stock inside! If I ever have a want or need to quite mine down, it will be with the 30" again.
