He has contacted Spartan once and they claimed they have never had complaints of this nature and it didn't really go anywhere. I did tell him to try calling them again now that he has some more evidence of what's going on

Just to clarify, this has happened with Edge also...right?

Looking to get a spartan tuner and this thread has freaked me out a little. All I plan on doing to my truck is dpf delete, tuner, and when warranty expires, egr delete. Then I will add a banks intercooler and banks cold air intake and finish it off with a cac pipe. Is this going to give me issues like this guy is having or if I stay with the basics am I ok. I know I will also have to do the tranny in the future but that would have been done even if I left the truck stock.

I wouldnt be worried. Most people post their problems and not that their day went smooth with such and such tuner. Odds of it happening to your truck is very slim. There is no telling how many spartan tuners are out on the market and two guys are having trouble with them?

It started with the edge. They then bought a torque converter, egr delete with no gate and Spartan. They thought the converter was shot due to the edge not ramping tranny line pressure, hence the reason for buying the spartan. It sounds like it all started after it was flashed at ford. But the odd thing is my truck hasn't been flashed since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. My truck and my other friends 6.4 have done it since Spartans last update when they offered all tunes to everyone. Maybe there are tables in the tuning that for some reason at that instance of vehicle speed/load/throttle position whatever it may be aren't jiving? I would not worry one bit about buying a Spartan tuner. I love mine and wouldn't be posting up if it weren't my friend asking for help. I drive around the problem and almost don't even notice it because I've gotten used to it. And it sounds like people with other programmers also have had the problem. Sucks to have a 30k+ vehicle and have to drive around a problem though.

I wonder if the problem would be there with stock tuning? If the tuning is calling for increased rail pressure the HPFP may be showing signs of wear or age that wouldn't show with the lower command.

I told Eric about what your friend is experiencing and this is what he told me:
Usually that's due to the actual and desired injection pressure not being dead on. This is usually related to either the injection pressure sensor not being dead on or the IPR valve actual isn't following the desired correctly. The only issue is, you can view the desired IPR duty cylce, but you can't view the actual.

Im not sure what you can do about this though? Replace sensor?

What sensor, rail pressure? Could it be caused by a weak hpfp? I know main only maintains like 22.5 on the 310 tune... Maintains 24.6k on the 300 and 275.... My buddies truck im unsure of. Its only got 60k miles or so. Mine has 110k

Mine only has 40k, had around 20k when it started, mine maintains fine. I still dont see it being mechanical. I mean I know it is something mechanical causing it to do the shaking etc like the HPFP valves or something but I believe something in the tuning is causing that to happen. A weak HPFP should only show signs of not maintaining frp. Have you tried unplugging your fuel temp sensor

Per Ford, when installing a new HPFP : Both the fuel volume control valve (VCV) and fuel pressure control valve (PCV) adaptive learning

parameters must be reset after a HPP replacement. Refer to PC/ED, Section 4, Hard Start/No Start Diagnostic Subroutines step 7 to reset adaptive tables.

Im wondering what would happen if you were to have this done without replacing hpfp.

I thought the lift pump (stock) put out about 3 PSI (I could be wrong)..is it just the units off??? Where was the gauge hooked up at...Shrader valve?? How many miles on the stock lift pump??

Fuel pressure on a stock fuel system is measured on the return side. Should be between 3-8 psi. The output side of the lift pump is around 10 psi.

Nothing really except resetting all the fuel behavior the HP fuel system has "learned". I clear mine every so often to clear up a choppy cold fast idle.

Big Angry Hillbilly also said you dont have to return to stock before doing this. It can be done while tuned

No I think you have to go in with ids and reset the adaptive fuel trim tables

Only speaking for the livewire and Eric's tunes but he said all adaptive tables were reset when programmed. I guess I'm just going to have to try the reflash
