I know I need to chase down some issues with my truck, but being a single dad and not having another rig to drive I haven't had the time to park it long enough to diagnose/fix the issues its having. Basically, if I get into the throttle at all, it pours black smoke. It has ever since I put the chip and injectors in, and the tuner I'm using is hard to get ahold of, at best.

That's why I never went with cale.

With a larger nozzle you can make more power at the same rpm/egt at the cost of reduced low power efficiency.

With a smaller nozzle you can have more efficiency at low power at the cost of higher power efficiency

Just curious what you mean by low power efficiency. Can you elaborate for a layman?

Atomization suffers at part throttle settings, all else equal.

Some ICP adjustment can help.

Nothing is wrong with his tunes. They are some of the best out there. He's just extremely hard to get ahold of and his turnaround times can be slow due to him being a 1 man show.

There is some real good info here. I will throw in my .02. You are probably pushing the envelope already without valve springs and pushrods, studs ect, but what about another power adder ie: water/meth, ect. I have a very similar set up to you and am running a CNG supplemental system and am pretty sure I am north of 400. Out of the 3 tuners I have tried Johnathan at BDP makes the best power and way less smoke. CNG scares people but I have over 20k and no problems and have probably done 20+ 1/4 mile runs. and get over 30 mpg's on my diesel.

you're getting 30 mpg at 5800 feet elevation ?

I'm callin' :bs: on this one.... unless it's a VW diesel....

It's ok I am still laughing every 1000-1200 miles I have to fill up! I am supplementing the diesel with CNG (compressed natural gas) super simple system that pulls the gas in pre turbo and I can adjust how much or how little to run. Much safer than propane and at $1.50 a gallon well you do the math. I have 20K on the system now and just got back my oil analysis from blackstone and I quote "your powerstroke looks to be in great shape....you have typical wear for oil with 5500 miles on it and you went 7000. There was no fuel, dirt or other harmful contaminates. The TBN is still strong at 9.8 next oil try 10000. Nice!"
My truck gets ~15 when I am not running CNG.

What system are you running and did your tuner have to adjust anything for you to run it?

I will see if I can round up some pictures. They were on my laptop that is broken. It really isn't much to look at, a tank, regulator and some hoses. Here are some pics from the manufacturer, same as my set up.

Is your's set up like the ones in the pics? with a bed full of tanks? Seem's like an awful lot to give up.... Btw I agree with the larger nozzle less smoke thing. Wifes 06 pumpe duse TDI got slightly smokey with a RC stage 2 tune and stock nozzles. went with a 520 nozzle (200%?) and gained a few hp, no smoke at all, and 51 mpg on a bad day:D

I have single 12 gge (gas gallon equivelent) tank. That is my main gripe is how much bed space it uses. I might only have to fill up with diesel once a month but I have to stop every 3-4 days to fill the CNG. Fortunately it is right next to where I work. Tank size is 48"x18" I have it in a large tool box that I still have room for tools, chains, straps ect.
