I could live with a tank that took up no more room than my toolbox. the guys on the link you posted seemed to miss the point of having a 3/4 ton truck..... or a truck at all. May as well have bought a honda ridgeline.

I have single 12 gge (gas gallon equivelent) tank. That is my main gripe is how much bed space it uses. I might only have to fill up with diesel once a month but I have to stop every 3-4 days to fill the CNG. Fortunately it is right next to where I work. Tank size is 48"x18" I have it in a large tool box that I still have room for tools, chains, straps ect.

So what did that kit cost?

The "kit" which was the regulator, heater hose for the regulator, gas hose to the intake, pressure gauge, ect was about 1400-1500 iirc. Used tank was $600, tool box around $700. New tanks are what kill you they are $3600 for a new one like I found!!!

We have severa CNG stations in Utah. Most at gas stations.
They are not rolling bombs (but i was pretty nervous on that first fill up) honestly the CNG tanks are probably safer then your diesel tank. There is a video where they set the tank on top of a stick of dynamite, shoot it with a .223 ect. They are such high pressure they will blow a fire out. I will see if I can track the video down when I have some tome.

Matt, what is your take on the risk associated with running cng? Is there any? If so is it risky enough that you would deter someone from using it on a modified and tuned truck?

I was actually thinking about designing a pwm controller that maps rpm, boost, and throttle position to have a fully variable cng system on my own daily driver. I wouldn't want it for performance but for the fuel economy. You can also get home compressors that can fill your tank overnight from your home gas service on the cheap. The tank pressure is 3600 psi.

I know there are guys working on digital variable systems right now. I don't have a home fueling system because I live in the sticks and my home is on propane. When I looked at home compressors though they were $4500. There might be some cheaper better systems now. As far as performance increase it is very nice but power to cost ratio is way off and you are adding about 200lbs worth of stuff. It only makes sense if you drive alot and plan on keeping the vehicle for years. You also really need an intercooler for it to work good I was told.
