It's getting real hot. Running 160 Down the highway and when I got off it started slipping again. Gonna make sure it's not to full tonight. How would I go about flushing the cooler

I would back flush it with atf and a little pressure. It's going to be hard to get everything out if there IS something in there, but I put a used 6.0 one in mine with a little brownish fluid and back flowed it and never had a problem.

Dont get crazy with the pressure....20psi probably. They make a can of shtI for flushing lines and coolers. If you take the lines off the cooler you could just flush the cooler out. Its not gonna be eash or real productive. Get as much as you can! Or get a bigger cooler like Jap said.

:whs: about little pressure... I meant like a squeeze of the bottle if you use ATF and one of those screw on hose things.

Does anyone have any opinion on using a shift kit to band aid a transmission?

Id say its a crap shoot. If the trans just needs serviced and is exhibiting potential failure symptoms, a shift kit, vb, and torque convertor would serve it well. If clutches are burned or the intermediate sprag is shot the trans needs torn down.

being that the transmission only acts up when warm, would that be a good sign of bad clutches?

Is it only acting up when warm - or getting warm when it acts up? Burnt clutches slip and slippage builds heat. All that crap in your oil - thats clutches. Its in your cooler and cooler lines, its in your valve body - its just sitting there, building up, reducing flow, and possibly going to start causing issues beyond just clutch slippage.

Hope that helps after your PM. :D

thanks jason!

it seems like it is fine when i first get in the truck and drive for probably 15-20 minutes then the trans will get up to about 140 degrees and thats when she starts slipping on me. so in other words i need to flush it numerous times and hope everythings out of it, then see how it goes?

I am hoping the truck can make it back to michigan tonight. i am thinking if i can make it to the highway before it starts slipping it should be alright, as it doesnt slip past 2nd gear. ill just have to watch my temperatures.

Hopefully the cooler and highway cruising will allow it to get ya home. It'll be a mile from home when ya have to stop and run through your gears that it will start acting up.
