My truck sputtered twice within 5 seconds of each other while driving and the third time it died. It will crank but no sign of fire, no smoke out the tail pipe. SES light is on and i tried a generic code reader and a snap on reader, neither of these will read any codes. They say something like error-cant read computer codes. Is this a sign my computer is dead? Is there any way to test this? Also truck is chipped, showed i trying taking it out and trying? Thanks for your help!

Im going to guess the cps is stock but i dont know. Ive only put about 10k of the 245k on the truck since ive owned it. I will try the chip and report back. And i do have all dash lights and the wait to start light as well.

Also forgot to state that i have had my battery light come on a week or 2 ago. Would this in anyway not have enought volts/amps to fire the injectors? I wouldnt think so but im trying anything.

The OBDII connector shares a fuse with the cigarette lighter, check that fuse.
You could also try pulling the chip out.

Usually if the PCM fries, the CEL light will not come on when you turn the key on. Do you get a "wait to start light"?

You can aslso try the PCM fuse and the PCM relay.

All dash lights work including the wait to start and service engine soon. I will look into the fuse and relay if i can dig out my book to see the diagram.

Error-cant comunicate scanner with the PCM to read codes?

I have a post below about my truck dying and not starting and i cant get the codes from the PCM. I have a wait to start light and all dash lights but it has an error and wont read anything. Ive heard possibly my chip, also the fuse for the fuel bowl? Any other suggestions before i dig into this tonight. Thanks

You can try that, chip is probably toast though. I know you know this, but do not have the keys in the ignition when pulling or installing the chip. I give the keys to my wife and have them put them in her purse (in the same box she has my balls in) while changing the chip.

BTW, I merged your two threads into one.

Should not hurt anything. What brand chip is it. You can send it back and have your tuner check to see if it is still good.

Yep, send the chip to a tuner on here and have them check it out. Not that expensive to just have them load some tunes on your good chip. If your chip is fried, you will have to start over. They all also sell chips.

My current chip is an old Bully Dog six position chip with Tony's tunes on it.

You can look in the classifieds and find a used TS style chip, buy it and send it to the tuner of your choice to have it tuned. The only major exception to this rule is DP Tuner. For the most part, they use a different chip and only they can write to it. I think they can also write on as TS style and I think they also sell a TS style chip.

I was unaware of that...
