Even when I tow heavy, my oil temps NEVER get over 220-222 degrees. And that's down here in the SE heat and humidity and pushing the truck pretty hard.
What's considered heavy though?

10-12k lbs in my case.
Just wondering, my temps were with 15k-17k.

I don't see it necessary to drill the front cover as many have had twin pumps without issue.
I have run these for a while and I am not having problems, but I remember a few years back reading somewhere, that twin HPOPs increased oil temp significantly.
Using the dieselsite spacer to feed the rear pump and have a secondary resivor feed as well shown in the second pic.
Sorry no up close pic of the secondary feed to the resivor.
Disregard the tty headbolts as it was for mockup before studding.
I'm really wondering what temp thermostat would be best, and what others have seen for oil temps with twin pumps.
Tapatalking from a wind turbine
My obs would run 205-210 cruising at 75mph empty. Twin pumps instantly turned it into 225-230. My gen3 pumps would run 215-220. That's around 80-85* ambient temp.

Damn, krist, you weren't sh!ting when you said you had some work done on your setup! :toast:
Looks good.
get a termy stat from riffraff.. its 180° stat that i CAN'T get my oil above 200° and thats even with a 12k fiver on back runnin a buck twenty in 80° weather..Ok so maybe my readings are not completely out of wack.
What temp thermostat were you running?
I will still use my IR gun tomorrow morning after my 70 mi drive to work to compare oil pan temps vs res temps.
Ill post the results.
Thank you for your input cowboy, just what i needed.
oh, and get ahold of jimdawg on here and get some LE oil in there.. it will prolly drop at least 5° just with his oil...
live life full throttle
I was not able to get a reading this morning.
Had the IR gun with me but when I got to site this morning I had 6 tower sections waiting to be offloaded.
Ill have the numbers today when I get home.
You need to run the return line off the IPR back the crank case. Before I did mine I was seeing upwards of 265 degrees oil temp of normal driving.
There is a recessed spot right on the top of the stock hpop reservoir that you can drill and tap and plumb it in there. It drains down into the crank case.
I think after I did this I was seeing about 210-215ish. But I have not had the dual pumps on for over a year. They have been there since January waiting to be fixed....LOL
I still need to get this POS SRP1 off my truck and sent in...LOL
The return goes right to the HPOP spacer, draining down back into the case.
Shown in the first picture above.
