It's not returning to the reservoir.
It's returning just above the HPOP gear and draining down the inside of the front cover to the pan.

So I just got home and I got the best readings that I could.
But because I was 2 miles off the interstate before I got my readings they were cooler than what I would normally see during highway travel.
Also the HPOP case Was the highest reading I could find.
The oil pan was 199° and the HPOP was 214°.
The reservoir was showing right around 210°.
Also I did not have a chance to hook up the AE during my drive home but on average I see 230° to 235° with AE.
I'm thinking that soon I will change over to the 180° thermostat and call it a day.

So how are you reading those temps? I might have missed where you wrote that above.

Those numbers don't seem out of whack at all. Before you do stick that tstat in stick it in some water and make sure it works.

Are you just shooting the outside of the pan and the HPOP reservoir? etc..

When I was having my issues the only way I could verify the temperatures was by an actual mechanical gage that I dropped into the reservoir immediately after shutting the truck off. When I used an IR on the exterior of the housing/motor it was way off what the oil temps actually were. I would shut truck off, have key on, have AE reading oil temps, then pop the top plug and drop the thermometer in. That was the only way I proved what my temps were. Then eventually I bought a isspro gage that is permanently in the reservoir to verify my oil temps. The IR reading was way off what the actual oil temps were.

The IR gun was showing pretty normal temps but in reality the truck was way hotter then that.

My dual pumps did the same thing getting hot when I had it returning to the front cover. I popped out the freeze plug in the top of the block where the OBS fuel pump would sit and machined a piece to fit in there with an Oring and it used the bolt holes from the obs pump mount. Once I had the oil returning there I never had a oil temp issue again. Also ditch the diesel site thermostat, I hated mine, been running the 180 terminator one from riffraff and thats been so much better.

I'll have to check and see what my thermostat is. Also would the resevior spacer that riff Raff sells help at all? Maybe a little more oil will help?

What makes the 180* so much better?

180° t-stat, BTS dual hpop, synthetic 5w-40 oil, scangauge.

I see 190° - 200° cruising empty. Towing (12k - 15k) in 90°+ ambient temp, its 220° - 230°.

I always figured it'd be cooler than that with the 180° t-stat, but it never has been since I installed.

Im thinking I just need a lower temp tstat.
205* is just too much for this setup.
Running 5-40 syn currently.
Ordering the 180* for when it comes back out of the garage.
Getting tucked away for the winter this week.
No road salt for this ol girl.

The truck runs cooler which is what you want. I know bob says the truck running hotter makes the fuel burn more complete or something to the extent but it never did with me. Truck ran worse, idled worse hot when it was above 200 and I made less ICP at WOT when it was hotter. Went to the 180 and everything improved.

What makes the 180* so much better?

So essentially for stock trucks the 203 is good but not for trucks with bigger hpop's or dual hpop's?
