I was looking at redhead but it seems like I have to take off mine and send it in rather than buy one and return the core.

They will sell you a rebuilt box and charge for the core, then refund the core charge when you ship yours back. They can setup return shipping for you, too. I just did mine in December, painless process and great quality steering box.

I'll be getting a redhead soon, I'm not sure but you may want to check if there is a different spline count for certain years. That would be a pain to pull it off and it not fit, but they probably take that into consideration.

I would think its more likly you bend the tie rod, panhard bar or damaged the panhard bar mount versus twisting something in the box.

I have actually twisted a sector shaft in a front end collision. I was suprised that it twisted' but with the pitman arm off I could see the teeth on the shaft misalligned. The teeth didn't shear, the shaft just twisted.

Thanks for that now I don't feel like I'm not sure what's wrong with the truck haha.

I'll be ordering mine an have the core to inspect before sending it back also

sounds good to me. ive been reading alot about going with the 97 version as it has a better ratio. that and the AGR box is the same part number for 99-04 as the 97 version and has a note saying that the 97 Pitman arm is needed.

calling agr and redhead tomorrow. would like to see if agr can get me one sooner than mid feb.

called redhead and the box is 350 and the core charge is 175. with twisted sector shaft the return on the core charge is only 100 so basically 425 for the box.

G Racing is getting it hooked up with the AGR steering gearbox and becoming a vendor for them. should have it ordered tomorrow and drop shipped from fort worth. only down side is having to get the 97 f350 pitman arm which i ordered from rock. will be at 400 range for this setup plus install/ Alignment (150-210) and have a core still.

So AGR doesn't require a core? Or are you saying that the number you stated doesn't include the core charge?

Also, what actual advantage does the 97 box give you?

The agr doesn't require a core is what I meant I say.

I'm not certain if there is any advantage to the 97 gearbox but agr part numbers for 99-05 have a note saying you need the 97 f350 pitman arm.

I am interested to hear how the replacement works. I don't usually have a problem keeping mine straight, but new years eve my wife had to drive me home and she had me a little worried with her inability to keep it centered...LOL

Yea for a while when I had shot front tires with horrible sidewalls and bad inner tie rods the wife wouldn't drive it at all. Wasn't too much of an issue for me but even after it still wasnt the best but i could live with it and her too. Hopefully this will improve it greatly.

I thought you had it in the alignment shop already ? a new box doesn't need a realignment
or am I missing something

I don't think there is an advantage to the older box I think AGR does this to save cost on there end by not using the larger sector shaft like the later OEM did ?

thats why i put the range on there. labor at 150 and alignments are 60 but that was quoted prior to me picking it up and paying for a partial alignment to get it toed correctly. really dont think it will need an alignment again but preparing for the worst so ill be pleasantly surprised haha. box should be built early this week hopefully from what jason has told me

I sheared mine over a year ago. Replaced with a Redhead and have been happy since. But, if Jason has you hooked up with an AGR, you're in good hands. Hope it gets all worked out, soon.

yea i thought about red head but with the shaft twisted i was gonna loose out on the core charge and really put them out for me. plus with jason recommending the agr also i feel like it should do the job but will find out soon enough.

was going to be needed by this weekend since was going to have to pull a trailer helping SIL move but thats off so now the only rush is to get me back to driving normally.

toed why would they mention that ?
a steering box won't affect any alignment issues other than maybe needing to center your steering wheel and that a DIY job

good luck I am sure the AGR box is fine even with the smaller sector shaft

the incident that twisted the shaft also threw the toe out of alignment also. he reset the toe for me so i could drive it while waiting on what box i wanted to get. the shop wont charge an alignment if its in check or something really minor since its already in for the labor on the gearbox.

im considering doing the install myself or at dorians to save some money and use that for the engine build up im starting but itll really come down to having the time.
