I snapped the internal ears off on my 08. Got one outta a 05 from a yard since my truck is a job 1 the older one worked. I also need to upgrade mine because I have substancial play side to side.

There is an adjustment bolt on top with an Allen headed bolt init. The allen right to tighten left to loosen. Adjust in small amounts untill desired steering. To tight will cause perminant damage. Be sure when tightening the lock nut to home the Allen in place with Allen key so it doesent over adjust.

I guess you can tell that if it stops automatically returning to center its to tight? I guess its more trial and error than an exact science? Thanks for the info by the way.

yup 1/4 turn at a time
you can also unlock the steering and see how much it moves back and forth before the pitman arm moves ,, i took min in three turns when I first bought my truck ..

then i fine tuned the last few increments so as to not over tighten

long wrenches help I also drilled the end of a piece of small barstock and put the Allen wrench in it to make an extension

ps wear gloves the splash guard/inner fender is brutal ,, but a block of wood will help hold it up a little

the wrenches and allen are all metrics

clockwise with the Allen tightens the play that's not what I would call to the right that might be misleading do to where you are looking at this procedure ?

yup but when your looking at this job from the driver side wheel well side at eye level like He will be turning the Allen wrench to his right will loosen it
that's why the term clockwise or standard thread works best

you can't always assume what skill level someone is at

I try to cover all bases lol

How about for an 02 truck I need a new steering gear box. Is the agr a nicer unit then the redhead or vise verse. I was set on the redhead. I don't think mines twisted or anything just has a dead spot.

I would avoid AGR if it were mine

redheads is just a quality rebuild ,, I would do that myself if I didn't have the same quality rebuild shop handy local
