being an 08, your trans should have the 5 pinion planetary. four pinion was mostly on 6.0 5R110's.

i have the red alto clutches in mine and next time i will be doing gpz. reason being that the altos hold well but if there is any slippage at all they glaze instantly, not very forgiving.

Yep i painted them using duplicolor metalcast blue, they were polished before, light sand with 400 grit and then 1 light coat and 3 heavy coats, they turned out awesome, just dont use primer or anything or they end up a dull blue :fustrate: meant to be sprayed over bare metal, or they sell a basecoat too

I believe the early 08's had 4 pinion planetaries.

Job 3 trucks have the 5 pinion.
Almost certain you will have a 4 pinion planetary.

Id just pick up a billet 4 pinion case and call it a day....it can be a pain to track down the extra gear.

And yes the ATSG manual is worth it......with that and a few phone calls these trannys aren't to over the top to work on.

X2 on the GPZ clutches

to the best of my knowledge it is a Job 1. Job 2s start in august and cover to the end of 07. all 08 trucks are job 3

Might make a call over next door to the ford dealer with the vin and see if they can tell me which OD housing it has, sounds like it's going to be the 4 pinion but I wanna be sure lol

No updates for a bit, waiting on my engine gasket kit to come in so I can send the motor off, thought id post up a few pulling pics of some of my competition for this season, enjoy!
My buddies dmax I helped with at the pulls last season, arguably the top truck in the class

Still a small class but its growing, hoping for 20 or so trucks this season, and the first 6.4 to hit the pulling circuit :jammin:

Are most guys replacing rod bearings when doing pistons? I'm keeping the stock connecting rods for this build, have new arp rod bolts to go in, not sure if bearings are needed or only if they're showing wear? Truck has 90k miles on it

Well some parts showed up today, thanks to Morgan at Midwest, ended up going with the trans kit with the gpz clutches, along with a xhd input shaft, billet ring gear and 4 pinion od housing, gaskets kit came in, from psd parts, new lifters w/guides, and added to the build list are 2 new rocker arm assemblies from ford, hoping to have the pistons and cam in the motor this weekend and start assembling the motor, excited to get this truck back together soon!
