Also while egts are at 1200 in the video. They never were able to exceed 1250 with a 3.2ms tune. And 238/100s. As rpms came up, boost increased up to 40psi, and egts came down to sub 1000.

Ge@rhe@d only gives you so much fuel sub 2k.

Thats actually really impressive!!
That 66 you have there does a better job the my s366 i had.
To have 15 psi boost at 1500 rpm and only 1200 egt is really good in my opinion. Being your egts are always below 1250 you got a great combo, certainly nothing ro sneeze at.

Thank you. I'm very pleased with how this 366sxe (with a 1.0) and the whole combination of parts works together. Every test I've thrown at it seems to give better than expected results. Plus as you can kinda see from the mirror, the tailpipe is pretty clean. Never mind the snow and slush. I would have gotten better video, but there was only so many grades long enough on the way home to make it a valid test, and actually show it working for any kind of duration, showing egts are steady.

I don't know where this tangent ended up as I stopped reading the thread this morning around page 30, but I can corroborate everything you, vref and Tarm said here. Its tuning, period. I live at 9000ft and tow over 11,000ft with a 38r. My truck was a smoky hot doggy mess that I wanted to drive off a cliff before Curtis tuned it. Now I can hold OD empty at 55mph on a 6% grade at 10,000ft elevation with 3:73/33's and hardly any smoke and towing heavy is no problem. Curtis towed all over the mtns with 250/200's and a 38r on a lifted truck with I think 37's and 3:73's and ran cool and fast and made over 500hp at +/- 5500ft elev...on PMR's AND A STOCK HPOP. Once you get above 8000ft, towing and pulling grades period is a completely different world than even a mile high. If you're smoking at sea level, ditch your tuner. There are less than a handful of tuners that really get it.

That being the case, if those alternative turbos are clearing up poor tuning, I would be interested to see how they do with correct tuning, they definitely seem like a step up from a 38r.

exactly.. all the haters for a 38r have something else ***ed up.
I had the uncontrollable urge to quote David Lott here. "Boost is a measure of restriction". Meaning, boost pressure is not something you can use to make a linear comparison unless you are comparing the exact same turbo. You can have less boost, and more HP, since you can flow more air for a given boost pressure depending on the turbo.
I was thinking the same thing when I read his post and then I read yours and you beat me to it... lol

Excellent test Mikeeg02! looks like a great towing machine. I am having great results with my S369sxe 1.0 housing as well but have yet to put some weight behind it. I shot a quick video pulling a mild hill this morning. Tune is almost a stock calibration 200% nozzles only maps altered are ICP and PW and very slight changes to timing set to take place above 2500 rpm. (PW was limited to 1.8MS in the main PW map). As I was pulling to the top of the hill in that video I was seeing about 30psi.

The 38r works with big injectors with the right tuning for sure. Are you going to be the full potential out of those big injectors?.......NO

Nice video and great for reference. Thanks so much for that. May i ask what injectors are you running? And other notable parts?

Nothing special. 238/100s. Home made fuel system. Srp pump. Push rods, beehives, head studs. Clutch to hold it all together.

You realize five or six years ago that was proven to be false? You might leave 25 hp on the table up top. But its not wise to completely wring every ounce of power out of any setup.

A 250/100 will do 500. Maybe more
A250/200 will do 500. And more
A 300/200 will do 500 easily and more.

The driving experience of all three will be drastically diferent. To make 450, you are going to be getting into hot territory with the 100% nozzle. The 250/200 even with a 38r isnt going to be breaking a sweat to hit that. In fact it'll be clean power. The 300/200 will do that at 3 or 4 tenths less pulsewidth than the 250 with the same nozzle. So then, is it the turbo or the fuel restriction that causes inefficient power production?
