I was just saying what everyone was thinking. :)

I must be alone. Charles is a really smart guy. Probably one of the smartest guys on this forum....in my opinion at least. He doesn't always go about giving his opinion in the best form or fashion, but it usually makes sense to me. Then again, I've been reading his well informed posts for years now. I guess some people see things differently, and opinionated people typically don't like the opinion of others.

I think what Brooks is doing is pretty cool personally. Would I ever do it? Nope. I don't like the idea of losing boost between shifts, or shifting at all for that matter. Brooks, on the other hand, has thought this out and decided to go for it. He seems like an outside the box kinda guy. After all, he did put a single on a truck that came with compounds from the factory. And no, that's not a shot at Brooks. I've thought about a single numerous times. Backwards thought isn't always backwards thought....if that makes sense.

Agreed. Charles is more than likely one of the smartest guys on this forum. He backs up his posts with facts and real world experience, but some people are still to ignorant to see that and believe they know everything even though they have never done or ever will do half the work with Power Strokes that he has.

To the OP, Cool project and nicely done.

IMO, this is one of the coolest projects I have seen and it doesn't have anything to do with the transmission type. This is about doing something that no one else has done. On top of that, the OP is not the owner of big diesel shop...He is a college student so I am sure he has limited time and money to do this. He started it in completely uncharted waters and he had to put a lot of time and effort in it to make it successful....that is what this thread is about!!! If people want to debate ZF6 vs. the 5r, then simply make a thread about...I am sure it would be a good (probably heated) debate, but in the mean time, please stop the derails.

Well said. I must be pretty dumb in the eyes of most of the people in this thread because I actually swapped out my ZF6 for a built auto, Charles was one of the people that influenced it to. And I couldn't be happier. :D
But I'm following this thread because like a few others above me have said, this guy is doing something a little different. It's a cool project and the OP is getting what he wants, its just not the same thing everyone else would do.

I assume you are running a 4" DP. Other than cutting the hole in the floor board, i dont think you did any other body work so i assume it wasnt an issue, bit did you have any trouble with the fit of the DP?

Was bout to ask you manual 6.4 guys about that, 4in downpipe tried its best to make my life hell getting the tranny in, it's barely touching the transmission but I'm gonna have to do something bout it

Been there done that and the fit is less than optimal. (Read as: doesn't fit worth a ****).

IMO : in a stick truck, the pipe needs to come down angled towards the back of the truck overtop of the portion of the bellhousing where the pivot for the release lever is, and not beside it. It will either hit on the transmission case there, or the frame opposite.

I have a manual transmission downpipe on my automatic truck, due to the fact that it fit that poorly on the original owners truck. And we spent a LONG time dinking with it to try and fit it.

Thanks for the pics bud, another question for the manual guys, unfortunately the bolt that attaches the shift lever to the shift tower is only sold with the shift lever (stick with the knob). I already have the shift lever and ford doesn't know the size of the bolt included with the lever. And my workshop manuals don't tell me what size it is either, so I was wondering if y'all knew what size that bolt was.

Fastenal off of Harvey. Take a photo of the hole. I or someone else can probably make a good guess on what it is. 12.9 or grade 8 Bolts are cheap at Fastenal, I just buy a few if I don't know the size

Either fastenal or ace bolt and screw will have something that will work. I'd also buy a bunch of different sizes and lengths so you don't have to keep riding around town. Just make sure you tell them you want grade 8 bolts.
