    Heater Core Valve Replacement

    P0148 code

I don't think that the 7.3L fan clutch cold be playing a part, but I really don't know for certain. As to the fuel pump, it has very little to do w/ the actual fueling controls. It simply makes the fuel available (at a proper pressure) to the injectors that are controlled by the PCM and FICM...

    P0148 code

Something is making your engine run faster than the PCM wants it to OR something is telling the PCM the engine is running faster than it's supposed (whether this is really happening or not). Possible causes - alternative fuel source, CKP or CMP interference (electrical) or a faulty PCM...

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

The updated design is probably 10 years old, but it is a good update. Navistar (and hence Ford) added an extra set of cooling rows. The only thing I know of to do is to verify that your oil temp sensor is reading the same as the coolant sensor after the truck has fully cooled down (needs to...

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

Was the oil cooler that was installed an aftermarket cooler? Some aftermarket coolers have been shown to not cool as well straight out of the box. Dorman and Sinister coolers seem to be in that category.

    sudden RPM increase rough iddle

The IPR duty cycle is ONLY a command from the PCM. It does not reflect a specific valve position. In fact, the IPR is ONLY an open/close valve. The duty cycle dictates the frequency of it closing (it is very fast acting). There is no way to know what the IPR valve is actually doing ...

    Transmission help !!

Download ForScan Lite to your phone. Get an OBDII ELM327 adapter (WiFi for Apple or BlueTooth for Android). I like BAFX brand. Read the transmission codes. Post here. Get the help you need.

    blue smoke

Couple other things. The BAFX brands of OBDII adapters are pretty reliable. Some of the cheap ones don't connect as well. Also, on the fuel pressure, you have a test port already - it is on the side of the secondary fuel filter, by the fuel pressure regulator. The port is what the...

    blue smoke

Every 6.0L owner needs a monitor IMO. Oil and coolant temperatures are very important to watch. The differential between these two temperature readings tells you when the oil cooler is plugging up. Lots of threads on multiple 6.0L forums on monitoring the 6.0L. You should also keep an eye on...

    6.0 dies when warm

The IPR defaults to the open position. When you turn the ignition key on, 12v power (positive) is applied, but the valve won't move until the PCM apples the gound. So, the dealerships can command the PCM, but the average person doesn't have that equipment. - You can tap into the IPR ground...

Oil question - lighter grade vs oil additive for cold start

Rebates are every year from Exxon-Mobil. IIRC they begin in August. Walmart participates also.

Oil question - lighter grade vs oil additive for cold start

I have plenty of data with my 5W40 still in the 40 wt range of viscosity (although right at the edge) after 5k miles. Even after 7.5k miles my Delvac 1 ESP 5W40 just barely drops into the high range of the 30 wt specs. My UOA is great. I have never had any fuel dilution of the oil, NOR have I...

Oil question - lighter grade vs oil additive for cold start

I hear ya, but there are a lot of threads on using the 10W30 wt in summer conditions, and even towing .... with very good UOA data. I wouldn't really worry about it, but that said, I have good results w/ my Mobil 1 TDT 5W40 and Delvac 1 ESP 5W40, so I have no plans to switch (especially since I...

Oil question - lighter grade vs oil additive for cold start

Ford specifically recommends not to use 15W40 below 20 *F. 5W40 works fine. So does 10W30 or even 5W30. No reason not to use them IMO. All new and refurbished 6.0L injectors now have a relief cut on the spool valve to minimize stiction.

    Truck lossing power then dies

Also, you asked about the new HPOP possibly being bad ..... It has happened w/ the 03 and 04 HPOPs, and repeat failures in relatively low miles has also happened with them. Some have lasted though, so jumping to that expense without cause is pretty costly and would be a big reg flag on the...

    6.0 dies when warm

Scanning through the whole thread, I didn't see where you were closing the IPR valve before air testing. You are closing that valve aren't you?

low oil pressure but starts and runs

Can't see it generating much either, but a lot of unusual things have proved to be possible over the years. Thought I would just mention it. It is something I think about when I do the UOA each time.

low oil pressure but starts and runs

I am curiousabout the HPOP internals also. I do know that some brass plugs are used in the anti-drainback valve, oil cooler bypass valve, or maybe the oil filter drain valve ...... or maybe in several of them (can't recall for sure). My memory says it is the anti-drainback and it has been...

    6.0 dies when warm

yes It is not normal. Several things can cause that. A bad leak could do it. A bad HPOP could do that. A bad IPR could do that. LPOP issues could do that.
