Well we are currently on a s364.5 sxe now, blew out a bellow out at the 7.3 jamboree hosted by Irate, luckily everything lined up for that to fail ironically half way across the country at this event.

So what’s the current injector and full turbo specs?

It’s bounced around so much I can’t remember! LOL

Definitely POS injectors. That’s what PIS should’ve been called. My 175/80’s failed in less than a year. Got FF 180/80’s and not only did the truck idle better, and smoke less, they were quieter across the board and 250k miles later, still running strong!

Probably because they only flow 140cc of fuel....

I believe he’s saying the FF 180/30’s only flow 140 cc’s.

I say that not true because it’s not possible to make 500 hp +/- a few, fuel only, on a 7.3 with 140 cc’s of fuel.

Yeah, my truck was stronger with the FF injectors than it was with the POS injectors. He’s always been a PIS, 38r, Dyno Proven bandwagon rider.

Does anyone have insight to how a 180/30 would compare to the 205/30 hybrid?

KC Turbos is with Full Force Diesel Performance Inc.

7.3 injector testing… who is king when it comes to 180/30 vs 205/30 (aka conventional vs hybrids injectors). Why pay more for hybrids? The results might surprise you.

Big shout out to Full Force diesel with all their help on this project so far, their injectors have been flawless!

Mods: KC 63/73/.84 turbo, CNC fab S2 hpop, 4 line feed kit, walbro fuel pump, BHAF air filter.

180/30 - 471hp and 1046tq. Only holds 2300 - 2400psi of ICP at WOT on max PW tune. Holds fine on any tune under 4.0ms
205/30 – 504hp and 1093tq. Holds a rock solid 3200psi of ICP at WOT no matter what tune is ran.

What is interesting is that that 180/30 actually spooled up the turbo faster and brought the power on sooner. That kind of makes sense because the 205/30 hybrids are going to run a lower final injection pressure… at least they will compared to the 180/30 until the 180/30 run out of oil.

180/30 - $1395 (won’t hold ICP and most guys end up paying $500-$700 for an upgrade hpop)
205/30 - $1895 (but you don’t need to upgrade your hpop)

So… which would you rather have?

Solid information, thanks! There is a pretty clear delay in 205's delivery of power, be curious how that translates to driving and also how the 366SXE I have would change it. Aside from this, the 205's seem like a better choice between the two.

One Idea I wondered about was twin HPOP's like Terminator or preferrably BTS with 160 or 180 cc. injectors. Anybody ever tried such a thing? Always hear the throttle response is great with twin HPOP's

Just looking at those dyno results I would still choose the hybrid. The hybrids power curve is not that far behind the A code conventional and you do not need a large aftermarket hpop. You also don't want high torque at low rpm anyways. Makes things go boom.

I never noticed anything with response from just running twins, tuning would affect that easily I think more. It just supplied with what it needed. I really miss my twins but I was having way too many problems with them that I truly think was just accidently manufacturing problems. Im back on a single pump and actually can drive my truck with reliability now (just down on a lot of power)

I have two sets just waiting for repairs and we thought about fixing them and doing the test but I don't think its really worth it honestly.

Well be hitting the dyno up the end of the week with the s364.5 with 205cc/30% injectors and then moving into 238cc/80%.

I’m very interested to see the 364.5 paired with the 238/80’s. I’m currently running a BASB with 180/80’s and have absolutely LOVED the combo. The injectors are approaching 250k miles and had a itch to go bigger. But don’t want to upset my current towing set up. 238/80’s or even 238/30’s has my eye.
I’m not only interested in the dyno result, but I’m interested to hear the towing feedback with the 364.5/238/80 setup.

I appreciate all the testing and info on these combos also. It's nice to see some 7.3 die hards still going strong.
I also am running a fresh set of 238/80s with a 366SXE in my freshly built 7.3. Its in a truck that I put together for towing. So far I really like the setup, but would really like to try the 364.5 for optimal towing. Also I have a stage one GH cam and some head porting.
I may post up some pictures of the engine build and truck build if I get some time.

Looking forward to some more dyno sheets and towing experience!

bigfords, I went from 364.5 to 366. First with the 1.0 AR and then to .91. The 1.00 felt lazy on tip in and the .91 made it feel like the 364.5 so I'd stick with the 366 as it fills out the mid range and top end with my injectors better. Towed our Fifth wheel across country in March and used 1023 street shredder tune the whole way. Ditched the low power tow tunes! No egt issues.

I'm also thankful for this thread. I'm interested in a different set of injectors as these PIS 175/80 while they perform very well (very even idle, great power) they're too smokey on low boost and that's been the case when running a range of turbos: 38R, 364.5, 366....

Live tuning should be able to get rid of the low boost smoke.

Good info. Did you try the 365.4 with the .91 housing? Thats probably what I would try if I went down a size.
Looking to get rid of that lower boost smoke also. Matt does a good job with it if I leave it in the Tow/Econo file, but I would like more fuel at about 1800 then that file will give, so I usually run the next file up.
Don't get me wrong, the 366 works great, but I'm after the most Ideal setup.
Back when I first had my 230/100s on stock turbo, my bumper stayed mostly clean. Once I put the 38R on there, my bumper got much blacker. The 366 is definitely better, but just am too curious on that 364.5!

One thing I forgot about...is the 6.0 IC a good upgrade to these trucks? I've got one at the shop I could throw in....

I had the .91 on the 364.5 which is what made the change to 1.0 so obvious to me. Had I never made that change, I probably wouldn't have known better. The two option are so close to each other, I wouldn't go through the expense to get a 364.5. Just use the .91 on the 366sxe.

So there’s a big difference between the 364.5 with 1.0 versus the 366 with .91 in overall power? I have the BASB (which is basically a 364.5) and absolutely love it. But if spool up is about equal but the 366 gives more mid range and topend power, the 366/.91 would be a no brainer. Especially if EGT’s while towing are a non issue.

Tmccoy, what made you want to change from the 364.5 to the 366 in the first place?
