what would be a good sizing for a good street set up. Im looking to get into the 650-700 range as always with out sacrificing tire size. Im ok with the set up being laggy but really do not want it any more laggy that my 66 i have now. I also really do not tow much with it, maybe a boat once a year. as i said my head starts spiinng when i start thinking about the turbo sizes....

I would think that 205s with the 62/65 over S475 would make great street setup. Maybe stepping up to an S478 lp would give you a little more top end.

I have a question for the guys who have built compounds. How does one go about determining which turbine housings match up well and whether or not a wastegate is required? Are you using the turbine maps? If so, what are you comparing? How much of an impact does the size of the lp have on whether or not you need a gate?

If your looking for 550-700 reliable power, go with what's been proven. No reason to re invent the wheel. Guys like Shawn, Tyler, and Moroni have all put down the numbers you asking for.

Going over a 64 is really losing the idea of "streetable" and becomes more of a race setup.
Go 62-64 Leave your .70 housing
External gate
S470

It's all been done, hell Shawns dually even towed cross country.

yea i think a 62 is the direction were going to go for some quick spooling and good street manners, but i think we are looking at a s480 for a little more top end power. truck already does 575 (600 if i can get my tuning straightned out) so im not looking to compound the truck and go backwards, i think 650-700 is a pretty reasonable set up, and i know i have plenty of fuel for it.

If you don't mind a little lag you will be happy with a 64, the 62 is directed at someone who wants a stock acting truck around town and off the line.

I'm really happy with the 63 I'm running as my HP. Matt got a chance to drive it a few weeks ago and was surprised at how well it came in on the street. you can get the 63 with a .70 t3 I think so that would help even more. my 480 obviously has plenty of balls for the upper throttle as well. as far as what's proven, you know what a 62/475 will make roughly. i haven't been to the track or dyno yet but I will soon!

i dont, my biggest thing is i do not want more lag than i have now with my 66
Watch your housing sizes. Alot of guys are on this t4 kick, a .70 t3 will get you where you want just fine.

meh...if i was trying to save $$, I would have gone with one of the standard A/R's. I had to pay extra to have the divided .83 put on there since they don't offer it. a billet 62 would be pretty sweet with a 480 also but that was getting a little pricey.

fwiw....the 63 is good enough on the street that Matt is throwing one on his 06 as the HP instead of the 66. he's going with a 63/65/70 which sounds like it would light fast. might need some gate love but who knows.

Now this is all hypothetical since I've never tested back to back. But after talkin to multiple major turbo distributors/ manufacturers I was told on a HP charger it would be throwing money away to buy a billet. Was told to spend my money on a billet 400 chassis or larger.

Reason behind this was that the 300 series is such a small wheel that the 1-xx gram weight difference would not cause a noticeable difference unless I was trying to squeeze that last 10hp out of the truck.

Take that for what's it worth

The 63/65 as well as the 68 wheel sound like chargers is like to see run

I agree....cast wheels in both mine FTW!! I did talk to Bill? at bullseye and he's the one who suggested that a billet 62 would flow close to what a cast 64 would do but again, I didn't feel the need to drop $ on a billet HP like you said.

Now this where quite a few guys he info from, as we have a few sponsors here that push his product. He is also the guy that tried to push me into a batmo wheel  no disrespect to him, but I'll take my info from Tadd and the guys at forced any day of the week.

You setup was a good choice lance. That LP should be great for the numbers you are wanting, and that trans will put a whole new perspective on highway pulls(assuming your getting a triple disc converter) After watching a few of the vids I think you can def dial in the bottom end more to be a "cleaner" setup but that housing has me guessing.

Until we had BP readings It would be hard to throw lines out.

Looking forward to those track times though :ford:

No I'm using the .83 housing

yeah the reason I'm coming to CS is to link up with Matt to have him live tune it and really get it dialed in. I really need to put a BP gauge in but I've been too lazy, plus ignorance is bliss at this point haha.

No I'm using the .83 housing

yeah...that's what I meant :lookaround:

bottom line OP....62/475(8) is a proven setup for the street/towing and will still put up good numbers with enough fuel. lots of guys have tried it and love it. I just went a little bigger because my truck is just a toy so I'm not worried about towing or a little lag and wanted a little more top end. all depends on what you want man!

Get one on there before you come down, once Matt takes a look at it and we tweak the gate, no question that things gonna be a killer!

i run the .70 t3 open on my 66 now, i have heard people talking about as you said the bigger housing kick, from conversations i have had with JJ the t3 open was a good choice, although i do want to go to divided up piped for some better spool....

62 or 64......here comes that headache i have been having again
