Dorman bellowed up-pipes for 99.5 to 03 7.3

I purchased a set of these for my 7.3. I have an early 99 that I installed a later non ebv pedestal and a 38r. I ran it for a while with the donught gaskets and 2000 up-pipes.

I have since removed the donught up-pipes and went to install the new bellowed ones. After installing I found that the pipes are lacking 1/4" on each side from making contact with the manifolds. It is like the pipe is short.

I was wondering if there is a difference between the E99 manifolds and the 2000-03 manifolds. Other wise I can't figure out why the new pipes are short.

Could the tall non ebv pedestal be too tall. I could switch a ebv one back in.

I don't really wanna pull them together with the bolts as I believe that will stretch the bellows and possibly crack them.

Maybe this is normal but I haven't found anything or anyone that confirms this. If anyone has an answer or suggestion let me know as I am :banghead:

E99 is different. They run a shorter turbo pedestal and a different turbo than the 99+. That would be where your 1/4" difference is coming from.

I know they are different. My truck was a E99 engined truck. I know have 3" plenum. I have a 38r which is a 99.5 to 03 turbo. I have the tall 99.5-03 pedestal. My question is, are the manifolds on a E99 different than a 99.5-03. Or are the bellowed up-pipes that I have wrong (I would think this to be unlikely).

Ok im locating a passenger manifold and will try that. That so far is the only thing that could be making a difference. The up pipe will bolt on to the pass manifold but then there is a 1/2" gap in the drivers side.

Is the pass as well?


Ok im locating a passenger manifold and will try that. That so far is the only thing that could be making a difference. The up pipe will bolt on to the pass manifold but then there is a 1/2" gap in the drivers side.

Are you confused...

The passenger is the same... The drivers is different.

I didn't have to change either manifold when I made the swap from early to late, all I did was swap driver side uppie and the collector.

are theese up pipes from dorman proving to be worth anything or are they just cheap made junk?

No they seem to be fine i just need the right manifold.

But both sides aren't tall enough right?

Jason said that he thought the exhaust manifolds only mattered on the 94 and 95 models.
