Messed this up. I know its been discussed but.I can't find anything. How hot and how long is too much. What's the max for towing constant. Is 1300 for 30 seconds bad. Or 1400 for 30 . I know spikes aren't an issue but I want to know when.to kill the cruise

Also interested as well. I would think 1300 for 30 seconds is beginning to push it, but I am not sure. I know when I hit 1300 I begin to let off LOL

I know the 1250 or under 1300 numbers gets thrown around a lot for the limit if you want no piston surface heat damage such as spider cracks etc. I seem to recall a thread over on PSN where someone had only seen 1300 and when the head was pulled there the beginnings of surface cracks. Sorry can not recall who or how long etc..

Yes that was just hitting 1300 for only few seconds as I recall. Look at what a stock engine is setup to have for max egt. There is a reason they set that there. They want those parts to go 300K. Is there some padding I am sure but its something to consider. IMO thing is the tuner can tune it so it does not go past whatever limit say 1200. After all if damage starts to occur at say 1250 on a uncoated piston whats the point on a daily driver.

LOL...Shhiiiiitt. I seen 1200 by the 60' mark. Buried by the 330' the whole way down.

1250* constant.

I thought it was 1,300-1,400??

But honestly on my 7.3 I pull trailers for hours at a time with the 1,600 degree pyro burried past the last number... 195k miles at 452hp and no problems as of yet...

That's what everyone thinks. That's drivers side manifold. I don't want to run it that hot but with my swamps single shots and aurora 4k turbo and pulling a backhoe with my 250 that's what I get... The way I look at it is they used the 7.3 in all kinds of applications big and small. There's no way they're all able to run that cool?

I mean it's not pegged for 2 hours straight but it doesn't go under 1,200 ever unless it's down hill. It only pegs out for 5-10 mins at a time over and over again.

I figure if I blow it up then I'll have my excuse to do a full build on it.

Who does your tuning? Have you talked to them about it?
