85 towing is real fast in a SRW.

And 35k behind you? :bs:

Yeah, a little excessive on all counts.

He'd melt the R&P right out of it. The trans would.**** the bed.

Ive seen 1300+ with my stock.sticks and turbo pulling.heavy.with a 100hp tune. Same scenario with the 38r and its under 1100. With my tuning and stg II's/38r it will crack.1100 but Im a flatlander. If I tow in the race tunez it will get up to 1400. I.can tow in the race tunes by manually shifting out.of OD if the egts get too hot. Going to third and 2k rpms+ will pull more cool air in.

For some perspective, my 7.3 usually has something.heavy behind it when towing so.I err on the side.of.slow. In my dmax with 12k lbs of trailer I hit the "tow/haul" button and mash it to the floor. Ive gotta say a cc/lb dmax is a nice road truck. I kinda wish my superduty was a long bed.

I never let it go over 1350 pulling a STEEP hill6-8% grade(yes 8%) it hits 1400 but only for a few sec(I let out of it when I see 1400) on a couple of occasions did I ever hit 1600. Was passing a gasser with a small trailer up a hill in the passing lane, gasser floors it so I don't pass and up ahead the lanes were merging back to one lane, I out pulled him but pegged the pyro meter, this was only for a 15-30sec Max. All This is with. A 13-15k toy hauler

I see very high cruising temps. 900-1150. At 70mph with the cruise. Constantly creeps to 1400. WOT buries gauge very quick. That's with 225/100 and a 66/71.80 charger. Street tune is a little better but not much.

Either you need your tunes adjusted or you likely have a boost /exhaust leak. Cruising temps at 65-70 somewhat flat ground should be about 200 degree or more cooler.

With Tony's tunes on my truck, I see around 650º at 75MPH cruising. If I nail it hard, they will climb quickly.

He should definitely be cooler. In my truck with 37's and cruising at 60-75 it pretty muh pegs 800. But if I get on it good, it'll get to 1200 quick. Which is why I'm going to switch to gearhead tunes. Eventually.

Mine is very close to this, and my setup is basically the same. I've finally settled on a tune from Elite with barely any fuel on the bottom end, it's not the quickest spooling but atleast the smoke is barely a haze under normal acceleration.

If I run my stock file or economy tune I can keep the smoke manageable. But temps are still relatively high.

you guys really own it to yourselves to try Matts tunes. You get good spooling which has more to do with not having to much rather than too little fuel most times. The most is next to none. If you want a pedal that is more touchy than stock in the bottom half just let him know and he will set it however you want.

My thought process is the pistons are aluminium alloy no? I thought aluminum melted at 1200 but it would take constant direct heat for the metal, not just the air to reach 1200.. every stroke it sucks in cool ( relatively speaking ) air and gets a shot from cooling jets which cool the piston. So 1250 sounds legit. Even 1300 for 30 seconds sounds safe. Even with my tow tune empty I can hit 1400 fairly easy.

I would say your thinking is correct and I believe that is the point HRT was trying to make.

The other thing we need to remember is we are seeing temps outside the cylinder in the manifold. The temps could be hotter or cooler.

It takes some common sense and a bit of thought. I would think if you are running 1100 and then jump up to 1300 or whatever you will have less time at that temp before possible issues than you would if you had been running at 650 and jumped up to the same 1300 degrees. Not to mention if you are pegging your gauge you really have NO idea what temps you are at. If its a 1600 gauge it could be anywhere from 1601 to 2400+.

I read an article that was a interview with Dan Scheid here was his comments on EGTs they run and the link to the full article below it:

We have a lot of 2.8 and 3.0 Class sled pullers that can't use water injection and run in the 1,000hp range. With a good intercooler, we're still able to keep the EGT less than 1,600 degrees during the pull. There is really no reason to run any hotter than that-you'll just be harder on parts. With high-pressure water injection, we can put our EGT level wherever we want. We can take an 1,800hp Modified Class pulling engine that would see 3,000 degrees without water and reduce the EGT to 1,400 degrees.

I would like to meet up with you monster to see your truck run.
I do know that pulling at these elevations kills the egts. I have been working with a lot of different tuners trying to get the truck to run cool while towing. It is real had for a lot of them as they don’t have knowledge of towing at 6000 feet and up. With my 35's, stage II's 160/80 and a 38r I can still hit 1200 while pulling 6000lbs a big grade before I start backing out. I have hit 1400 a couple of times but never for long periods. I am defiantly happy with all the new tuning that I am running now.
Monster you should look at getting some live tuning done to get your truck more dilled in. Are you lifted at all or running bigger tires? I do know a lot of guys in Colorado running bigger injectors that are able to keep the egt's below 1300 pegged for some time. It's all in the tuning. Make sure you don’t have any leaks. That can make those egts go up quick.
I have a question about all these ppl pulling these big campers on stock trucks. Most of them don’t have egt gauges but they are foot to the floor going up these passes. I do know an old rancher that has a stock 2000 that pulls a 30 foot horse trailer with 6 horses all over Colorado. The truck has over 300K and never has had a problem. I just wonder how they do it for such a log time.

As soon as my 7.3 is up and running again I'll show you for sure. I go through durango all the time. Hell just pulling a 4 horse stock trailer up the pass and over to Silverton gets her pretty damn hot.

I'm not lifted but running bigger tires. But I'm one of those guys with my foot to floor in just about evey situation. I don't back off when I see it start to jump up. I didn't buy and then build a big ass money pit to pull a f'ing trailer at 55-65 mph

DP tuner actually did some live tuning close to here about 2 years ago but I was all high and mighty with my custom tunes that I already had lol

My truck put down 442 hp with a hole in the passenger side up pipe at elevation, 90 degrees and my smaller 64mm turbo so I didn't really have any reason to try something different...

But for those of you calling bs on the load size I pull, you're wrong. I gross well over 30k all the time. I have a 40' 4 horse all steel living quarters trailer. And I mean that's nothing. Just my 14' tandem axle dump trailer full of gravel tips the scale at 31k... even our 40' flatbed weighs a little over 9k empty

Dude, you're double doses of dipchit!!

"Ha, yeah I'm a badazz with a badazz diesel. I spent lots of money on it so I can drive it like an irresponsible idiot!! HAHA... I pull mountains with it all the time. Well at least trailers that weigh as much as mountains! I can't actually show all of you how badazz my truck that I spent lots of money on really is because its broke down right now. But I can assure you though, that its a monster, just like my penis. Heck, my stack even looks small compared to it!! Just ask me I'll tell ya. But hey, I'm a foot to the floor type of guy so who cares bout the damage I cause to my monster everyday, cause its a badazz and everyone else is wrong. Downshift, what's that? On these long pulls up out of this town, I'm killing every mosquito for 200 miles around and it takes a while to get up to 85 pulling this 40k pound load, but when you start out at 35 mph in overdrive with your foot on the floor, what's a guy to do, ya know??? These trucks were built from the factory to handle idiotic drivers with lots of extra booosht and powwa. But wait, I originally said it was stock, then I now say that I spent lots of money on it to not run 60mph. Just like I changed my story on how hot it is all the time. It's a monster though and I'll keep abusing it like a redheaded stepchild. CAUSE IT'S A MONSTA!!!"

^^^ That's what I get outta your posts. I think you're a disgrace to a powerstroke ford diesel owner.

Ya for sure! This damn thing has an electrical short from hell and I haven't been able to find it yet. Hopefully soon. It has a brand new 66mm turbo that I haven't even got to try out yet...

Haha you're funny.

First I don't have a stack. I hate stacks. Second, when did I ever say it was stock?? And when did I ever say I don't downshift? Or start out in a high gear so I can lug it?? I hate smoke, why the hell would I want to lug it??

I simply made a post stating that I go above and beyond the 1,200 (Safe Zone) all the time and that it hasn't affected me. All of you scared mo-fo's in turtle necks with your starbucks in one hand and your boyfriends penis in other just can't seem to grasp the concept that you can over 1,200 and not melt anything. Quit being a scared little pussy and try it... Then come back and be like damn man you were right. I guess there's more to it than my little pea brain could see
