Swamps, Charles, and many others run SS bolts and haven't had an issue. Just do a google search for 7.3 manifold bolts, it'll give ya all the info you need.

Right on, Ive done.that. There are different types of.stainless. Different bolt grades.

No pissin.buddy, just not.sure I want to add that variable. I know.stock bolts will.last at least 265k and with a little work will come out. If I have this thing when it hits 530k miles Ill worry then :D

For what?! Im not.sure.what you were responding to hombre.

Depending on if the bolt/stud is threaded in the manifold or just passes through and threads into the head you can try to drive the broken piece out with one of these

something else you can try if you have enough room, and that is to heat the head of the bolt cherry red, and then drip some water on it one drop atta time for a minute until it is cool to the touch....this will expand, and then shrink the bolt away from the threads.....when its cool, hit it with an air wrench....99 times out of a hundred the impact will then break it loose....or if you have a GOOD 6 - point socket, and breaker bar, put that on it and tap the handle sharply with a 4 pound hammer, holding the slack out first.....

We drilled it out tonight. Then ran a reamer through all the holes to.clean them out. Im not sure who mentioned it in here.but the hole where the bolt.got stuck/rusted in IS smaller. The bolts are all the same but the one hole is tight to allow you to line the manifold up.

Locally Ive found no stainless bolts that are rated for the torque it takes to hold.these manifolds on. I know guys are using SS but it seems like a.gamble. One im not willing to take.

Got my oilpan off tonight(who told me I couldnt roll this.thing by myself on my harbor freight stand?) and the cylinders are friggin gorgeous. Nice visible.crosshatch. Not that I had any doubts but i have forged rods. Not bad for 265k miles!!

Back to the drawing board on injectors!!

With the warmer weather and longer daylight I should have my motor back in soon. Ill be sure to get pics. Ive been painting everything which is time consuming.

Fyi-rustoleum 2k degree.paint is friggin.great. The vht stuff is trash.compared to.rustoleum. There may be a shot in hell this.stuff will STAY on the manifolds. Vht is rumored to.peel right off when heat comes up the first time.

It wasnt hard honestly. I was more worried about dumping the whole.mess over. Shrek? Maybe a little. Hit the scale for the first time in a long time this morning, 263lbs.

Ill go to fastenal.tomorrow and see.what they have.

Well I was putting a fuel system in and trying to fix massive oil leaks. I then decided.as cold.was setting in I wouldnt get the truck running before the winters freeze hit. I had flushed the cooling system and put dc-9 in to.clean it out, drove about 250 miles. Ordered parts, sent stuff in off my truck as.cores and never got.parts in time to get done, lol. I was worried about freezing and cracking mainly. But also realized it was perhaps a good time to just pull it, get it on a.stand, and check.it out. Possibly overhaul it. My motor is spotless inside. No rebuild needed. I took the liberty of replacing all the seals, painting everything, and ill install all my parts motor-out. My plan was to install some injectors I bought from a member but they arejunk basically so im gonna get injectors, a small hybrid, and have a clean motor with new accessories. Old rotating assembly but everything else cleaned, replaced, checked, and sealed. Get it ready for another 265k.

Ps-im getting quotes for new leather and carpet too. Some bodywork. Got new wheels and tires last summer. It'll be a new truck again.

Sorry for rambling....

Probably a 238/200 or 250/200...all fairly similar....ehhhh, basically paid.core price for.cores. Ill hang on to my ad's as I know they are good and send the 275s off to their death, lol.

My seats will be stock color but with a dark brown insert and possibly the back of the seats in the dark.color too. Carpet is going to be dark instead of tan. Probably as.close to the seat color as I can get it. My truck has wood on the inside.so.Im looking to match that or compliment it.

One day I'll step my game up and get injectors. I'll keep an eye on your thread since I'm running a 38r for now

Where are you getting your seat covers from?

well, if you shot-peened the manifolds first, and then painted them with an oil-based paint, it might stay a while....we never had much luck with the Cummins engines in the Big Trucks exhaust manifolds staying painted......we'd shot peen 'em and paint them , and they'd cook in the first week, and look pretty cool, then slowly , over a period of the next month or so burn most of it off again..... look good for a while tho....always wanted to try a good Rust-Blue, like a gun is blued, but never got 'round to it....
