It's been a while I suppose.
So about last august Morgan Primm and myself started jaw jackin about the next progressive step for this here tow pig. After a lot of, you're stupid no you are, we finally came to the conclusion to go compounds with a billet 475 over my streetmaxR. Then we laughed about how quick I'd trash the stock motor, so we decided on a mild build with rods and 30% injectors.
We had a tentative date in mind to get the truck in around December 1st and be done before Christmas.
Then on November 17 we lost Morgan in an MVA. He was a vital pioneer to this platform. A forward thinker and an ability to solve problems never seen before separated him from the rest. The future of the shop was unknown and frankly the least of anyone's worries.
On November 25 I traveled to Athens to honor Morgan while he was laid to rest. It was then I truly got to see the kind of support system the diesel industry can be. It was also decided by his wife Darci that the shop would indeed carry on, headed by Jared.
Just by happen chance, my Midwest stage1 trans **** the bed on the drive to Athens that day, sooo we laughed at it and left it there. Ended up that the forward seal blew. All clutches were checked and fixed and we decided it'd be a good idea to upgrade it to a stage 2.
During the trans debacle we him-hawed about all the things that had been decided on the motor build and one thing lead to another and bigger plans were made.
A couple months later we had a finished truck down and running. During initial engine break-in it was decided the upgrade precision converter was NOT liking the power upgrade, so that was addressed with a 4disc Suncoast unit.
Soon after, during live tuning the motor had a catastrophic failure and was trashed. Never having seen this problem before on a 6.7 was a stark reminder what an asset Morgan was, we needed his problem solving skills damnit!
Another engine was built and a few more upgrades were added for peace of mind. Fast forward a bit and the truck was back on it's feet. The new motor was noticeably quieter and smoother as well, yay.
After a couple weeks of break-in the truck was delivered to my home and then meticulously cleaned and polished by Art of Detail Chicago, owned and operated by PSA member Ryan Gleason.
While we're still trying to dial in Vgt maps and driveability, I can without a doubt tell you this thing is a moster even with the small amount of fuel we're set on. Without further ado, here's the build list:
