i wanna crack 800 hp.... on a budget

Yes you can. His budget is $20k. I'm making 650 on a $12k, and some things I put on are not even necessary. I bet he can do it on $20k IF he has the know-how to do stuff on his own.

The term "budget" is relative to the one making the said "budget". It can be what ever number you want it to be.

thatys what im mlookin at probly just shy of $20,000 and its gonna be progressive like i said and im gonna do everything my self besides any machining or legitimate speed shop work

I'd say a CR Cummins is the closest. My brothers truck put down 833/1527 at spring fling dyno day. $900 injector nozzles, $450 head studs, $700 valve springs and push rods, $1350 dual Cp3 kit, $400 lbz cp3, $1100 turbo, $650 manifold, $500 smarty and if were counting the trans that was $6500, it could be done cheaper but that's what's needed to be reliable long term and so far its been great, we are actually otw back from a hog hunt it GA right now.



How many miles on that setup? What turbo?

EGTs are real reasonable too.

Miss a light? What does sleeping on the tree have to do with track times? Clock doesnt start til your car breaks the beams...it does NOT start when the green light drops. If you are missing gears, unable to predict where your car is going to go, spinning all over the place etc...you have no business on a track. My 60ft is always within a tenth of itself, my mph is always pretty much dead on as well. If you don't know when to feather, shift, let out to keep from popping a wall..you do not need to be on a track. A track will tell a far better story of what something makes for hp, I can make my truck have a 500whp dyno sheet, or my car make 1000...but I can't fake trap speed.

I fully understand you may know what your talking about, but to say a person who is missing gears, unable to predict your car/truck and spinning all over does not have any business to be on the track..... IS JUST CRAZY......

I can agree that each person needs to be responsible and safe for all to enjoy but lighten up.

Unless you popped out the womb double clutching and slapping gears I think its time to lighten up...

Missed light, late RT. Turbo Not spooled enough, having to let off cause ur truck may be all over the track....missed gear if ur driving a hand shaker.

Not actually raced but ive spent a few summers as pit crew for a buddy that ran 8.60s in a 72.5 vega.. but i put my dually on the track to verify hp. Due to three different dynos being almost 90hp off.. live tuned at 492hp, went to 2 other dyno events and one was 408hp and the other was 403hp.. tap and et put me near 470hp...

Even a guy at my job who drives his brothers 7.3 and talks **** about my 6.4.
I thought I left the bench racing, butt hurt high school kids in the 4 cyl Import Forum.

You can measure HP either way. By mph or ET. HP=(mph÷234)^3 x weight or HP=Weight/(ET÷5.825)^3

This is how you measure hp from 1/4 times. Notice the second one has ET as a variable. When I was talking about a dyno being more accurate I obviously should have clarified NOT a chassis dyno. The individual running a chassis dyno can make your truck produce practically whatever HP you want. Thats the biggest variable there.

I was talking about an Eddy current engine dyno. IMO that is the most accurate. 746watts=1hp. Load the engine with as much resistance through basically an electric motor until it starts no bog. From the watt output will give you exact engine HP. The operator cannot change that like power correction factors on a chassis dyno.
Unless you can somehow hook your driveshaft directly to the chassis dyno. But then your still a bit at the mercy of who wrote the software I guess.

lol i have no clue? how many of us daily drive an 800hp 7.3 especially on a budget. if you had huge pockets and its so perfectly dialed in then yeah its a perfectly find to be DD and streetable. realisitic? not really, If its being sprayed to hell to make the 800 from 600 some odd hp then of course it is. Besides i think out of ALL the comments made in this thread i think you could have picked a better fight.

Wow is all I have to say after reading through this entire thread. And people wonder why the truly smart people don't contribute much on the forums any more. Also not everything that happens makes it on the dang forums for all y'all that think they are the holy grail. People build trucks without posting all over the damn internet about it. Imagine that!!

Fwiw I made 600+ on a 38r for less than 10k in everything. 3k more for a turbo (s468 ) I was deep into the 600s. But I'm sure I'm going to be told that I didn't do it or its not possible so why does it matter. Truck was trapping 103-104 @ 7700-7800lbs with the 38r. With the 468 was trapping 86-87 in the 1/8

Can 800 HP be made on a realistic budget? No not for long at least. But unless your paying somebody to build you a turn key motor your not going to have 25k in it more like 10-12k doing it yourself.

I just dropped my block crank and heads off to Carson and couldn't ask for a better guy. He was very professional and informative. As far as doing what the OP is trying to do I think he's more looking for a list of mods and what order to do them. This of course is only my opinion but when you do want to go fast in one of these trucks and first come on the forums it's a bit much. To the OP if I were you I'd start with the external stuff such as the fuel system and such and work your way to the engine. I am hoping to someday get to the 800hp mark as well but in this platform to do it on fuel alone is a lofty goal. At least that's the position I take on the subject.

Obviously you haven't seen the dyno sheet from Bills R&D with a very similar setup a couple years ago that made 638hp with a 38R.

Bill did a test like this last year and the numbers 566 and 603 with the billet 38r wheel. And there are zero track times to confirm it yet. 650 is alot farther off.

Has anyone ever put an 8 cylinder p-pump from a Mack truck on a 7.3.
A build with those components should easily be capable of supplying the fuel to make the power the OP is after.
Those pumps can be found for under 600 dollars, and the john Deer tractor "pencil" style injectors work well with them.
Just throwing out idea's............\

EDIT: I saw the sticky on this thread. I see there are quite a few very good looking designs.
Does anyone know the cost of the fuel system?
