i have a 2004 with egr delete, mbrp 4 inch turbo back, edge juice w attitude, aem brute force, tuned ficm when it gets below 40 it idles rough and jump to 1000rpm and is up and down grunting. then after min it shuts off. recently if i shut it off and came back before it is totally colded down it will run like a bad ficm and on the road wont run past 1400rpm like it wont fuel then all sudden its runs like usual. i had ford do a power balance test and it came back good i cked ficm and ford did and its ok ford did replace a icp sensor and blamed edge but it still idles bad once in while.

If the FICM voltage checks out, I would be looking at the IPR. Your symptoms lead me to believe the IPR is acting up.

I'd wait for someone with more experience than I have in troubleshooting the 6.0 to chime in before you throw an IPR at it.

Edit: Try pulling the Edge to see if that changes anything. It's no suprise the dealer pointed the finger at the Edge, that's ALWAYS their first answer. Your motor and tranny are on borrowed time with that thing anyways, unless you're just running the Insight monitor.

A Ford parts changer wants to spend as little time on it as possible. It seems to be a rarity anymore these days to come across a true technician. Aside from that, they're not making money by spending a bunch of time looking around troubleshooting. The ICP sensor is a whole bunch easier to get to than the ICP.

Like I said, wait for some other opinions. The ICP is just a guess coming from a guy with relatively little experience troubleshooting 6.0s.

no codes that our reader found. im guessing ford tech on read one for icp but didnt say if he found others. ford tech said when truck warms up it RUNS for 3.73s and 37s when he test drove it. no crap i take care of it. ipr sensor i found online was expensive compared to icp. truck also has head studs who is recomended for sct tuners and custom tunes

tuning isn't your issue. a truck shouldn't shut off unless you turn the key off.

as for tuning..Matt@Gearhead, Chris @ TSD, Eric @ Innovative diesel, Mike @ KEM...

I've had various issues with edge tuners. No code would show up, caused alot of drivability issues. I would drive it without it for a lil while and see how it does.

how would you check standpipes and dummy plugs
Pull the valve covers. The new style ones will take a 12mm allen. If it takes anything else it wouldn't hurt to update to the new style ones. The older ones are famous for leaking/blown o-rings, but if it starts fine when hot now you have a diferent issue. Don't remember, but can you read IPR duty cycle with the edge?
