Can someone explain the difference between a bed plate and a girdle for me? Google doesn't seem to offer a whole lot of help.

A girdle ties the crank main caps and only the crank main caps together.

A bed plate is a machined piece that ties the main caps into the engine block. Usually through the pain rails. The bedplate also is one piece since the main caps are machined in the plate. Very strong piece
