When you do it so many times it starts to just be routine maintenance. I could tell you every nut bolt and clamp on that trans. Its like a brake job to me now LOL. My pocket book is starting to become transparent its so thin lol.

Just got word the true trac is done and the guy installing it overheard me talking to my buddy about welding the axle tubes today and he went ahead and did that. 1.5 hours of work left till I head to the truck!!!

What does welding the tubes do? Never heard of anybody doing that

You weld the tubes to the center section. Keeps them from spinning in the center section, especially for guys with big tq and a traction aid in the rear.
Very common in the hotrod and rockcrawling world.

I believe they call it axle wrap. If I recall correctly it's where the leaf springs actually begin to twist. Say in a "S" shape from the amount of torque. This leading to broke springs and such. Perhaps I'm mistaken but I'm pretty sure that would be the cause for welding them. Far more solid then bolt on in my humble ignorant opinion.

ummm no.

welding the axle tubes to the differential case is for high torque applications that run the risk of breaking the weak factory tack welds and twisting the pinion up thru the bottom of the box.
