I spoke with Dennis at Strictly Diesel about this sort of set up. He said that the baldwin filter 1212 is too restrictive for large pumps like the fuelab and A1000 and he recommended the baldwin filter 1252 instead. Hope this helps.

Does he know the flow rate/efficiency between the two? I have always listened to Dennis for advice in the past, but I've been using the 1212 for 8k with no issues. I am curious though, maybe I will pick one up next filter change, which is coming up in 3k and see if there is a different sound in the pump or a gain in pressure.

I wonder if they share the same spin on thread and diameter as the 1212 EDIT: appears that they do

He didnt mention any specific flow rates/efficiencies. I am pretty sure that both the 1252 and 1212 share the same threads but that the 1252 is a larger filter. I could be wrong I guess.

Digging this back up, Where did you get the filter bases locally? i cant seem to find anyone online other than grainger that would carry them.

did you order the fittings or get them local also?

Ogburns Truck Parts, Its located near i-10 east and 610. They were cheap too, cheaper than anywhere i found online. I got my fitting from a local hydraulic shop in Baytown. They weren't cheap...

Im not a fan of the baldwin bases, their quality is crap, I had one and it stripped the threadds when i changed the filter that was on hand tight. Get the billet one from Napa, its 40 bucks but its MUCH nicer.

I have the Baldwin base. And im an idiot and read on the filter wrong and tightened it MUCH tighter than it was supposed to be( didnt see the marks on filter and thought +1 meant a whole turn). Its doing just fine.

I researched before i went and bought them and was at NAPA looking at their filter base. I went with the Baldwin for a few reasons.
The Napa uses 2-1/2npt in and 2-1/2npt out. I have 5/8 line running from the tank to pump so i was not going to have the filter base be a restriction. And i did not want to go through all the trouble of splitting them up. But this could be considered a plus because 1/2npt fittings are much cheaper.
The Baldwin base uses 7/8-14 in and out. And the Baldwin base was easier to mount in my case.

I have since made a bracket to hold the CAT filter under the hood. And im very happy with how it turned out. Filter changes will be easy and not too messy and it is not in the way to work on anything.

I'm gonna have to correct myself, invoices don't lie lol.
The CAT base that fits the BF1212, CAT 1R-0750/1R-0749, and others is $40 from Caterpillar.

Another thing, my CAT water separator came with an o-ring hanging off the bottom drain but my 2 micron filter didn't. Where does it go? Why didn't the other one come with one?

Where did you order the CAT base from? Google is being a pain right now and my searches only bring up forum threads

From reading online about the Cat filter, its not supposed to have a middle oring like the B1212 comes with

I ordered it straight from a local CAT dealership. The o-ring was on the drain cock in the shrink wrap but it's already got one just past the threads inside the filter.
