I was just in that situation a few days ago. I wanted the 2mic after the pump but it was going to be 10x easier to do both pre pump. I ended up putting the cat filter post pump. I have pictures of everything and will post them later when I get back to my computer.

That'd we sweet. Im interested in seeing how you made it work. I dont see it being a problem running both pre-pump but if it can be made to work I'll do a pre and post filter.

I am planning on doing this and was wondering if I need to run a pump Pre-filter or will the stock pump work? And what size are the stock lines?

Thanks

Keep in mind that i already had a Full system that consists of

1/2 Draw straw to 5/8in Pushlok hose
Aeromotive Marine A1000
to 1/2 line to Fuel block to braided lines to front of the heads.
Solid lines with banjos on the back of the heads to braided lines to
Aeromotive Marine Regulator
return "tees" into the factory return line from the fuel bowl.
Where the factory pump was connected to the return lines i have a piece of steel line that connects to the factory return line.

Now i just added
Baldwin Filter base FB1311 (2) $17.99 locally
Baldwin Fuel/Water Separator BF1212 (1) $9.xx locally
Cat 2 micron 1R-0750 (1) $29.99 locally

I wanted to run everything in the order of Tank, Fuel/water Separator, Pump, Cat 2 micron, engine.

As you might know there is not too much room under the hood for a extra, big filter. Heres the Pics. Any questions or want pictures of anything in particular just ask. Also just look through that album on photobucket and theres pictures of everything.

Now to clean up my mess of wiring under the hood and fab up a bracket for the Cat Filter.

I left room that if i wanted to run 2 filters pre-pump i could.

Need to know what your wanting to do with the truck mod wise (Injectors? what size? ect.)

Fill out your signature so everybody knows what you have and tell us what you want to do with the truck so we can more easily help you.

Well as of right now all it has is a SCT with canned tunes and exhaust. I am slowly building it up to be a DD and local truck puller. Not getting too crazy or anything, just wanting more power. I am in the process of making traction bars and saw this and thought it was a good idea but was just gonna run the cat filter for now. My goals for this year are headstuds, EGR delete, upgraded oil cooler, traction bars, better exhaust, and leveling kit.

Idk if I want any more crap under my hood lol, but it looks good. your baldwin is in the same place I was planning on putting both. I have two questions for you: what size in and out fitting is that on your baldwin filter mount and did you drill those hole in your frame to mount the baldwin bracket (not near my truck to see if they are already there). Thanks

Most people that are looking to add the cat filter are doing so because they deleted the fuel bowl (filter) and added an aftermarket pump and lines. In your case i would invest in a fuel pressure gauge and possibly the blue spring kit (raise fuel pressure). A healthy stock pump should be able to keep up with stock injectors. If your not having trouble keeping fuel pressure you should be good to go.

Now if your just looking for extra filtration with all stock components that might be a little more difficult as most of the stock fuel lines are hard lines.

Sounds like you have a good plan for your truck!

Did you notice any pressure drop with the filters the way they are? Thats how Im setting mine up.

Going from my sump to the baldwin water separator, then from the baldwin to the a1000 which will sit approximately 7 inches toward the back of the truck from the stock hfcm location using the stock pump bracket, then through a cat 2 micron that sits in the location of the stock pump, then feeding the supply feed line.

All 5/8 line from the sump to the cat filter, down to the 3/8 stock supply line

BTW I can get cat filters and baldwin filters for $15 each.. if you need a hook up let me know and i can get you a case. beats paying 30 per filter.

Ya i fell ya on the more stuff under the hood, But there was no room in front of the pump elsewhere. Maybe if the pump was mounted alot closer to the tank you could fit it all in that one area but im just thinking out loud. Yes i had to drill those two holes and the in and out fittings are 7/8-14 UNF (which i believe is the same as -10 ORB). And yes i like it mounted there as it is protected by the skid plate.

Did not notice any pressure drop, but have not done any WOT runs as my transmission is not too happy.

Good idea on moving the pump back and putting the filter there, If i had known i was going to be adding this i would have done so as well. Would have been way too much trouble for me to relocate the pump, but if your starting from scratch i would go for it. I did leave enough slack in the line to make filter changes easy.

Okay so I think I got mostly everything figured out except my last question (for now). The fuel line fittings into the heads can the my just regular fittings or should they be banjos? Mostly Im interested in the ones on the back of the engine. Is there enough room to put say a 90* fitting? Also since your elbows have o-rings, while banjos have metal washers, would o-rings have a problem next to the up pipe and the heat?

the 90 fittings work fine, depending on the 90 you get, some have tighter radiuses, others take too much space to bend and are too close to the uppipes. The banjos aren't as easy to install playing with 2 washers, but work regardless.

Your best bet would be to go with an established RR kit, you don't want to be jimmy'ing lines that are 1" away from 1500+ degree up pipes with random fittings.
Would be glad to hook you up with a RR kit at a PSA discounted price.

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. My head is spinning with all the fuel system info I've looked at the past few days. Now Im thinking I may just go with and Airdog II for simplicity sake and feed it from a sump. But I would still like to have the fuel flow all the way through the head and out the back, kinda like a RR minus the regulator.

you can do it without the regulator...just use a fixed orfice in it's place. This is what Dan at FASS told me if you end up using a pump system with an adjustable built it regulator

Digging this back up, Where did you get the filter bases locally? i cant seem to find anyone online other than grainger that would carry them.

did you order the fittings or get them local also?

Im not a fan of the baldwin bases, their quality is crap, I had one and it stripped the threadds when i changed the filter that was on hand tight. Get the billet one from Napa, its 40 bucks but its MUCH nicer.
