Jared curious about the monochromatic. Does that mean that bumpers will be painted body color say like a platinum? And a body color grill surround as well?

Sent from a lawn mower

Supposedly its a full monochromatic scheme BUT the bumpers will be chrome. Still cheaper than painting an entire truck to match in my book

I seen one place say there chrome, but when I went in to price one the guy said on the order sheet it said body color bumpers, so
I think it may be in the air still or maybe you can do
Both.

I have a few times when I was running fuel from the midwest. I drain mine once a week and when I was in the midwest on a couple occasions I drained water from it..

What could they fix to prevent water in fuel problems? That's not on Ford... unless it's a problem with the separator..

Its more a problem that the owners dont drain the separator. Its been found that if the water in fuel light comes on then its already past warranty and ford wont cover any damage.

This is actually a "sky is falling" scenario on other forums. You would think that it is as problematic as the 6.0 EGR system. A couple guys reported having never drained any water out of the separator, only to have Ford deny their warranty claims due to rust on pump parts when their trucks died. A big coincidence with the fuel system failures on other sites are that most of the owners are running aftermarket fuel tanks and most of those are Titans.

VW Common Rail TDI's use the Bosch CP4.1 HPFP and they have been having similar pump failure issues. However, VW seems to be footing the bill regularly instead of denying warranties like Ford. Just like the 6.7, when the CP4.1 grenades it takes out the entire low pressure and high pressure system including injectors with ~$7k repair bills.

VW somewhat attributes the failures to people putting gas in the tank and even have a 'recall' on the common rail TDI's to retrofit to fuel filler to help prevent misfueling. However, there are several on the forums that seem very meticulous and knowledgeable and not the sort to fill up with gas and they still have issues. The TDI's have a single filter fuel system with no water separator so I'm sure water in fuel is a contributing factor to some of these failures.

One of the TDI vendors, 2microntech, has actually come up with a set up that is supposed to prevent a grenaded HPFP from taking out everything else. First, it runs a filter in-line on the HPFP return to catch any trash before it goes back to the tank and contaminates the rest of the low pressure system. There's also a 2nd piece that actually reroutes flow at the metering valve by separating the low pressure and high pressure sides of the HPFP so that a failure of the cam doesn't send debris into the rails and injectors.

After looking at this system for my wife's 2010 Jetta I got to thinking why something similar couldn't be made for common rail trucks. It's an insurance cost up front that you may never need, but if you do grenade a HPFP it should limit the damage to a new pump and a few feet of fuel lines instead of an entire fuel system or motor.

This is the VW system. There's a nifty diagram on the "Pure Flow Adaptor" page that shows a cross section of a CP4.1 HPFP and how it separates the flow. Not sure how similar a CP4.2 or K16 pump is and if something similar could be done for the trucks?

Holy crap! So ford is denying warranty's even when the separator has been properly drained and there is still rust in the system? So its possible that its either that the filters are not being changed often enough or that they flat out are not doing what they are supposed to be doing? Or the guys claim that they keep it drained and actually only drain it when its on its way to the dealer? Either way it still sucks... guess ill be looking into an extra pre filter setup...

this may be a "dumb down" solution, but if people are so concerned about water in the fuel, why not just run fuel additive in every tank? I've been doing this since day one, 215k miles later ive never had a water problem? I fuel out of on site storage tanks on our jobsites, and also have a 40 gallon RDS in-bed tank I store some fuel in for longer road trips. every tank has always been treated with power service and I drain once a month. just food for thought.
