Oh one more thing, remember to pull the ficm relay before you tune the ficm. or you risk killing the solenoids on the injectors. Ask me how I know...

The writing process produces high frequency signals that can get sent down the line to the injectors. Pulling either the relay (which is what I prefer) or the ficm relay fuse eliminates the chance of the solenoids being damaged.

The PHP gryphon says right on the screen as you try to tune to pull the FICM relay or damage may occur. Hard to mess it up, it warns you and asks you to hit the "enter" button TWICE before moving forward. I use the gryphon still and you can definitely tune back to stock with it. Or maybe it's just a "stock-ish" tune PHP loaded on there and you're just re-writing the stock tune over the performance tunes? That would make sense I guess.

I think tht IDP should have a pull ficm relay warning on there tuner to idiot proof it form guys like myself... Or you can read the instructions too I suppose

Still can't decide which route to go. If I go PHP, it'll cost an extra $150 to get the rollback. Not sure I'm ready to pay $550 for a tune/monitor right now.
Talked to Eric a bit and he said it really wasn't necessary to get rollback. I know Eric knows his stuff, and my truck likes his tunes better than anyone else's.

Eric is probably the route I'll end up going. Would it make a difference if I had my current ECM tunes rewritten to include the FICM tunes once I get them?
(might make more sense just to ask the man himself!)

Ok, backing up to a rollback strategy.....

I know I have a later strategy on the truck now. PHP says without the rollback, I will get positive results from their tuning, but it won't be the full effect unless I rollback. Should I even bother doing the rollback? I mean, how much of a difference are we talking about with tuning on my current strategy vs the same tuning on the rollback?

I couldn't even tell you what strategy was on mine, didn't do a rollback (truck is an 06), and I have ID ECM tuning. I still noticed a significant difference in driving with the PHP unit.

Same here, IDP Xtreme race and PHP Hercules, and immediately noticed greater low end response with the FICM tuning. truck was a lot peppier, and later seemed to yeild a nice bump in mileage.

I did the FICM tuning a few months after I had the truck "rolled back" hoping to gain some mileage. The roll back actually dropped the mileage a touch, so I opted to throw the aftermarket FICM tuning on cause I figured at worst it couldn't hurt. I forget what strategy I got rolled back.

Never had any cold start issues with this tuning combo fires up nice even in single digits, never plugged in.

I had PHP ficm tuning in my ficm when I got it from Swamp's. Last time my truck was on the dyno at Eric's he loaded his ficm tuning. Truck ran a million times better. I know it's different because my truck has huge injectors but with the php ficm tune my truck was a lopey sob and idled and started like crap. For reference, here is an idle vid with the php tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZYFQr0kzX4 with Eric's ficm tune it idles close to a stock truck. Not sure if I have the inductive heating tune or not, I tend to just let Eric do his thing and make the magic happen without asking too many questions, but either way it runs great.
That's exactly how mine sounded and I had 185/70's in the truck, sounded like complete garbage, I hated it, it sounded cool for about 2 seconds, eric told me switch to his and it would take care of it, better believe it did for sure.

Pretty sure with Eric's tunes his race tunes or higher end FICM tunes do not have the inductive heating, but I think it can be added, you just have to ask for it. He'd be the best guy to ask though. PHP, all tunes have mild inductive heating, for sure.

I don't think you can really go wrong here either way, both are great companies to work with it's just going to come down to cost and creature comforts for you.

Not that I need a custom tune yet as I am stock for now, but I am in the process of getting my old Evolution converted into a Gryphon and will then be running one of the Atlas files as well...and when I upgrade fuel and air I will just need to order the file to match the new setup

This is the strategy that PHP told me they'd roll back to if I purchased the rollback. I'm assuming that is what they roll everyone back to?

This is a tad off topic, but how much of any given strategy is TCM related? Just thinking about something unrelated but didn't see the point in starting a new thread.

When I got my FICM tuner from them I also got the rollback. After looking at my truck's strategies, they recommended I leave my ECM tuning alone and rollback just my TCM strategy so it sounds like they are two separate strategies, not tied together.
