Working at a dealer and fighting the clock does take its tole. And is why I don't see any techs torquing bolts other than very important once. Cause we have to make a paycheck and be productive and at the same time provide quality work. Now if I were building a performance motor. I'm currently working on my brothers mustang I do find myself torquing more bolts then I would at the dealer. So I can see alot of hobbiest doing this and engine builders. But I don't see and haven't seen a tech do this. And I wouldn't consider them hacks. There is this tech at work. NO JOKE he has to be the fastest tech ever. He is able to pull a motor from a 6.0 and do bed plate gaskets and reinstall the motor and road test all in one day. Less then 8 hrs. Head gaskets with engine removal in about 6-7 hrs.
HPP in a 6.4 in less then 3. He's pay periods are always over 200% productive. He's not much of a diagnoser but dam is he fast. And his quality work is great. Non come back for issues. Workmanship is great. Well I guess what I'm saying is everyone is different and has there own way in doing this. As long as it doesn't affect quality work. It's all good.
