I was able to get it bled and the steering feels so much better than before. No more slop!!

Should I be able to turn the wheel with the truck at a dead stop? I think the P/S pump might be on its way out also.

I also have an old sloppy box on my '99 with 281K on it. Then I popped a hole in a steering line today. Think it was rubbing the intercooler tube. Looks like that's where it's squirting from under. Everything is so tight in that area, can't hardly see, let alone get your hand in there. Looks like I'll need to take a lot of crap off to get to it. Is it worth doing? I'm tempted to just pay to have it done. (I'm kinda all messed up with bad discs in my back and neck) I hate doing things twice, so I'm thinking Red Head box, and all new lines.

Question #2, I drove her home with no power steering about 1.5 hrs. Would that have ruined my pump driving with no fluid? It was squirting out faster than I could pour it in. Thinking of replacing it at the same time.

#3. Who makes the best pump?

I have seen ads online for pumps with hydro assist, and without. I think mine has it. Brakes were worse than an Army truck on the way home.

You probably burned up the seals in the pump driving that long with no fluid, I would replace it.

Who did you order your box through? Redhead directly? I need to order one here soon.

You were right. I love it. Truck handles completely differently. Nice and tight for a 9,000lb beast. Gonna have to get used to it...

I considered that, but I don't like how low and exposed they (including the factory single) are mounted.

Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me, after installing a new steering gearbox, what harm will be done by starting the truck prior to bleeding the steering system?

When I installed the new gearbox last year I made this mistake and it has seemed okay since but is something that continuously bothers me.
