So I've been reading a ton of threads about injector size, nozzle size, and turbo size while trying to decide to upgrade to a new truck or find a clean low mileage 7.3L. My current setup is a 160/30 injector, van turbo w/ww2, and DP tuning. My truck does a pretty good job of hauling my 12K lb 5er but I have to to imagine that a 400 hp/800 ft/lb 6 speed truck would be a dream! So for the guys towing with a 200/200+ injector and T4 S3xx or S4xx turbo what do you feel your trucks are lacking and how does it compare to a small injectored stockish turboed truck? I imagine that combo is pretty close to maxing out a 7.3Ls potential.

A 38r and a 100% nozzle would be cheaper, easier, and quicker than finding a clean low mileage 7.3, lol.
That would put you in the 400 hp range pretty easily.
Course, if you spend much time actually using all that power in a towing situation, you'll have to spend a bunch of money on the stuff behind the engine. They aren't designed for that kind of stress.

^^^ this guys is right, you'll want some healthy drive line parts, a stout transmission, some good sway bars front and rear, traction bars, and good brakes and tires. My 96 with 175/100s, BASB turbo (a 38r or 364.5 SXE would also do the trick), and t500 towed like a dream, fast as hell, smooth as hell and extremely cool egts. The only thing in that list above I didn't have was traction bars, and my new rear u joint only lasted a year before it blew apart coming down the mountain with my good friend that I sold it too, I believe traction bars might of helped relieve a lot of that stress. That truck was a zf5 and was very torqey, that clutch was grabby, and when watching from the side you could see the axle wrap bad even when you weren't getting on ot

Also, that truck had the South Bend CON-OFE 475hp clutch, and my combo would slip that clutch on anything over a 40hp tow tune, it really needed the next level up dual disk clutch

I have both a 7.3 and 6.7, see 7.3 build up in sig.

The 7.3 has raw power while the 6.7 is fast and refined. I enjoy driving both trucks.

With a 200 nozzle injectors, you need to fine tune the injector, read the tuning thread. I'm happy with my 175/80s, more than enough power for my towing needs.

I got most same mods as the other guys. As you can see in my signature. Trucks a towing beast .
Only issue I have is trying to keep water temp down.
I got a custom 9 blade plastic fan I had made just for my truck . Custom aluminum fan shroud had made to fit tight everywhere. Aftermarket aluminum Mishimoto radaiator.
Horton electric fan clutch . 180 degree state.

All that and I still can't keep the temps under 220 on a long hard pull in the heat..
Truck just makes so much power I can't cool it.

Don't waste your money on a 38r. Do a t4 mount and a sxe turbo to
Match the injectors you choose and run it.

The van turbo seems to do most of what I want. Still laggy though, even with the 4.30 gears. Is a S364.5 as much of an improvement as a stage 1 injector over stock?

I wouldn't call it "waste", lol.
A t4 will give him a lot more options for sure, but for cost and ease, it's hard to beat drop ins. Kc turbos offers a decent option also, if up pipes and pedestal are serviceable.
It depends on the actual goal. If he really wants 500 hp, a t4 might be better. If 400 usable is the goal, what I've listed will do that with ease.

So how does your 7.3 pull the same loads as your 6.7 (power wise)?

Just fine. The 7.3 has more than enough power to tow. I have to slow down a few times pulling a hill as I catch up to slower moving cars....annoyance.

One of my best mods was going to a T4/BASB.

X2 except for the fan shroud and fan (I have the stock fan & shroud). But then again I don't slow down pulling long hills :D :D :D . I have the cruise set at 70, start the hill in OD then drop into 3rd when EGTs start climbing. If the EGTs didn't get to 1200, it would've pulled the hill in OD.

I don't slow down either . There's only 2 hills around here that I have to drop to 4th on with my zf5. All the rest I keep in the big hole.
I think the radiators in thses trucks are physically just to small to cool the heat thses big engines produce at thses hp levels. Case in point , pop the hood on your 6.7 and you'll find the radiator almost as wide as the front of your truck..lol! Simply no comparison.

So I bought a T4 kit and 364.5 from Irate. Most of the install looks pretty straight forward. How is the down pipe to install in a Superduty?

Wow! That 364.5 is a pretty neat turbo. Feels like the truck picked up 75-100hp. Can't wait to hook up to the 5er this weekend.

The 364.5 is a great turbo for your setup. I am sure you notice a much faster spool compared to the van turbo as well. Did you go with the.91 or 1.0 housing?
