After fighting with my insurance adjuster for over a month on my old truck, I don't really feel the same way about my truck getting stolen / totaled. Even with receipts for everything I had on my truck, I received nothing more than the trucks value. I was told that modifications didn't add to the trucks value etc... They also tried to give me what the trucks were going for at dealer auction in Texas at first. Adjusters are d!cks that usually know nothing about vehicles.

this is not good.

what did the adjuster have to say when you kept declining his BS offers.

Had my dad threaten to drop all of his business insurance which was through them. That changed their mind and i got maximum bluebook value. If i wouldn't have had that to bargain with, I probably wouldn't have gotten sh!t.

all the preventive anti theft, will not solve that problem^^^^^^^^

Truth.

Theft is actually a big concern for me going forward - I am getting so much time and effort put into the trucks that I use and drive that I really don't want them taken away from me - although I know that anyone could if they tried hard enough. All the electronic cutouts and gizmos in the world will not keep a flatbed from loading it up and driving off.... but you could at least lock in it 4x4, crank the wheels, and lock the column to slow them down.

Basically make it visibly too much of a pain to steal and they won't bother.... they will move on to an easier target.

The best prevention is layers: an anti-start/Ravelco, an alarm with paging, and GPS.

This is what I have planned for mine. Some type of anti start device coupled with a silent alarm that will page me through my phone and a GPS tracker.

That should slow them down and give me time to get out there and get my hands on them before the police. And if they do happen to get it started and get away the GPS will help track them down.

spending thousands in order to recover a molested truck doesn't appeal to me

getting a check for full retail value plus tax from insurance does

I leave a key in my console for when I leave it running, so all they have to do it break a window and start it and drive off. I know I wont get my mod money back, Nor do I care, Im out the money anyways it being on the truck as it is. If I got replacement value I'd be happy. I dont have an alarm or even keyless entry (xlt), any fool could break into my truck and steal it. If someone steals it, it clearly is worth more to them than me.

I should have added the next layers: two large dogs and an owner with a gun. LOL

If you recover it quickly enough, the molestation may be less. But I know what you're saying. I look at it as spending thousands so I don't have to try to recover a molested truck.

If you've added aftermarket stuff, double check your insurance. Most of the time they don't reimburse the replacement cost (what you paid). It's usually fair market value, which they'll argue is pennies on the dollar of the purchase price. Or they'll have a price cap for aftermarket stuff, like $5k. Or both a fair market value stipulation AND a price cap.

If your insurance doesn't have a price cap and is paying out full replacement cost for aftermarket accessories, please let me know what company you're insuring your truck through. Because I'll switch. Seriously. :toast:

Crank the wheel to one direction and then take the steering wheel with you. If you have a 5 or 6 speed take the shifter with you. Hell take the brake pedal. I think if your worried about getting your truck stolen I wouldn't be posting pictures and what mods are on it and your location on the internet.

thats pretty sweet, but for my truck if they want it, they can have it LOL full coverage for a reason.

I have full coverage...they are trying to deny me any coverage at all...

Kill the FICM power supply. Truck won't move.

Why even give them the chance to start it?
By that time, there is already $1500.00 of damage from popped locked, and busted steering column.
How many times are you gonna make a $1500.00 insurance claim, with a $500-1000 deductible? Not many.

Ravelco.... nothing can touch it.

I think the way to go would be physically stopping the fuel from getting to the engine because if they've stolen a dozen other superdutys they are going to know which wires to jumper to have it running in no time but if it isn't getting fuel it isn't going anywhere. Also a alarm system tied to train horns is going to stop 90% of thieves Imo.

Again...why even let them break their way into your truck?

Full coverage does cover sh!t when you have modifications.

The only way to get your money back, is to have the truck covered for what it's worth...period.

Just too bad the insurance company wants such an outrageous amount of money each month for the premium.

The way I feel right now...I wish I had never spent a dime on anything aftermarket....cuz my truck is only worth x amount of dollars. (going book value for the year, mileage, and condition.)
