well i twisted the gearbox vector shaft this morning so i need a new gearbox. was talking with G racing and he mentioned the AGR gearbox. looks like im looking at one of them shipping out as soon as 2/6 from summit or jegs. cant seem to find them else where.

any other options for good quality aftermarket upgraded units. shop is quoting remans from arond 300-385 and the AGR is at 330 range from summit so far

How did you manage to do that? I have been looking at possibly needing a new gear box since no one can get rid of the play I have in the steering wheel.

I was on my way to Dorian's yesterday and an idiot 2 cars in front of me decided to go from 45mph to complete stop in the middle of the road. Had to slam on the brakes and cut it to the right and popped a big curb pretty hard so I didn't hit anyone. Was not fun.

I was having some play also so I guess it should be better with a new box but I'm not sure I'm sold on the reman ones the shop can get and still not have the truck done till Monday.

That does not sound like fun!! Mine got alot of play in it when i crashed into the median in september, I believe it was from cranking the wheel from one side to another real fast and the way it hit the dip in the median. I have had bump steer like a mad man for a while now.

It wasn't fun at all that and had my some with me so I was pretty furious when it happened.

Yours sounds similar to my issue except the bump steer. My alignment was basically fine my guy said just minor toe adjustment. I think I'm gonna pick it up today and order a box myself even if I just do a ford reman and save money on the part and take it back to him when it comes in

I have heard of a Few sector shaft failures and usually the owners remeber having a large impact at one point in time ,,

ford actually made the shaft larger for our later years

I am lucky We have a place callen bench Werks Here in AZ they are awesome

I remember having to replace the box in My Blazer 3 times before I told AutoZone I wanted my core back because their boxes sucked

Your last comment is what I'm worried about with the remans. Supposed to get a call soon and get some options to decide what box I want to use.

theres an adjustable collar type thing down there, loosen up the two bolts and twist it around and the steering wheel will go one way or the other. Or just take it in for an alignment and they'll straighten it out

This. Set the wheels straight and adjust it. Its on the link that comes off the Pitman arm. I found it easiest to adjust when I loosened the two bolts and stuck a stubby screw driver and rotated it.

Those pics are after the alignment was checked and it's still set properly. The truck doesnt pull but the steering wheel rests there instead of at 12 o clock.

The sector shaft got twisted in te box

yup they should have included that service

I am confused you stated you twisted the Sector(vector) shaft ?

what exactly are you talking about they just don't twist without drama and they actually usually snap

and it wouldn't technically affect alignment

I'll check into that monday. I'm really not opposed to replacing the box itself as the steering has been kinda loose.

The guy that looked it over discussed it with a major ford power steering guy in Houston and that's who confirmed/pointed him in at direction. The guy who looked it over is legit as I have the truck on me and it's not being held hostage etc etc.

I was told it was the sector shaft. And it was the reason that the alignment is just fine but the wheel is off like you said the sector doesn't effect the alignment. I'm driving the truck it's just annoying that the wheel is off. It will also buck slightly when turning right not much but can be felt.

I was also told that in the area ford sector shafts are back ordered plus it's more expensive to just replace it vs the entire box.

I would think its more likly you bend the tie rod, panhard bar or damaged the panhard bar mount versus twisting something in the box.

but that would have resulted in it not being able to be aligned properly like it is. inner tie rods are month old moogs and the suspension was checked out for anything other than the box that could he mesed up
