It's hard to believe your 7.3 was faster! But it's also believable too. I'm also surprised about the parts too!

160CRANK horsepower vs 225.... not that hard to believe. Not to mention stock 12v's run out of breath @ 2100rpms, which is when MY 7.3 just starts moving. The shift for auto 12v's is like 2150rpms or 2200rpms.

Yes a stock pump 12v is a pig when you try to tow. Get it rolling then shift and it falls on its face. Its hard to tow much when it only revs to 2600 stock. Mine had a gov spring kit in it and would turn 3200 but still. My 7.3 gets up a goes much better with a trailer on and my egts are 2-400 less when I tow than my 12v was. Its not a weight difference either. But trucks are around 8600.

Well I figured since he had a decent amount done to the 12v it might be a little bit quicker than what I assume a stock 7.3

thats what kills me... INTERCOOLED cummins runs higher egt's than NON intercooled 7.3 powerstroke:thumbsup:

It all comes down to them being inlines and them being mechanical. Throw an auto behind it, and you've got one terrible, terrible setup.

My 7.3 w/ a trailer + 6"/35's is probably the same speed as my stock 12v 5spd 2x4 cummins was unloaded; it was that slow. That thing would just wheeze like a retarded asthmatic whether it was loaded or unloaded.

I believe it though, when my computer went bad in my 7.3, I beat my friends cummins and he had injectors and a couple of other small mods. But I started out in 2nd and went to drive with no torque converter lock and still beat him

Before I got my 7.3 I had a 1990 with pump turned up a little and a 3200 gov spring. Injectors are cheap for them. Stock those motors are slow!!! I had too many problems with my pump and timing so I got rid of it. My pump leaked bad put a new one on and it started leaking too.

My cousin has a friend with an 80's chevy pickup w/ a 12v rotary pump swapped in... thing runs hot as hell, fully turned up, different housing, 6" lift but some baby tires and that thing would get pummeled by my '97 w/ 6" and huge 35's minus the damn tunes....

First step...

Compression check...

second step...

Pick a HP level.

If you need a motor you can pick them up every damn day with 100k on them for $1200 or so. Throw your parts on it, a set of injectors and be done...

I am in this motor right now about $1500... Once I sell off a few other things from the donor truck I should be about $800 or so.
