Here's a shot of a shorty 4X4 with an excursion tank.

attachment.jpg

After talking with the owner of this truck I decided this was not the best option as the cross member needs extensive mods to get it to fit. I believe it would be much easier to entirely remove the cross member and build a new one that will accommodate the tank without sacrificing strength.

That looks horrible....Maybe if it was behind a bumper and a hitch to hide it, but it shows WAY too much with that roll pan.

Transfer case gets in the way. The front section of the tank goes underneath the cab, so when you move the rear axle forward there isn't enough space up there.

Well damn... so you guys are saying an F-150 tank, Bronco tank, Excursion tank, and/or a custom tank/fuel cell.

I can't see the pictures of the Excursion tank from here at work, but based on GC's reaction, I probably won't like it - considering I'm also doing a roll pan. What year F-150 and/or Bronco tanks would I be looking for? How big are they? Do you have to do anything special for a gasoline tank?

Sorry for the thread hijack!

I also bought a Manual 4x4 Regular Cab. Mine's a 6.0 with 70k miles, got it for 8k. It's in pretty good condition though, and it came with a CM Trailer flatbed that I was able to sell for $1300 (definitely helped with offsetting the cost of the shortbed).

When we did it we used a 01 f-150 RC/SB tank to get it to work. It still uses up almost all the room, but is pretty easy to get mounted. Also, iirc 16in out of frame. Hope that helps.

Well just to clarify, the tank you bought will fit, if you use a chainsaw to cut off a foot and a half from the front of the tank, you may end up with a slight fuel leak though.

1997-2003 ford f150 rcsb tanks will fit. There are several that fit, my rough estimate is that it has to be less than 54" long to fit. Here is a sight with several tanks that will fit.

Bro you can talk about whatever you want on here, I don't care. I just wish you had found this before you bought that tank, I was going to buy one saturday but thankfully several helpful guys advised me not to.

Thanks! Yeah, its all good though - I can give the tank back to the guy and get my cash back (he's a friend). Thanks for the link!!!! I may just buy one of those, since they're brand new.

Again, just to clarify, I need to order (from that site) a tank for a reg cab shortbed 4x4 - right? I just want to make sure... it seems that they're 24.5 gallon tanks, kinda sucks but as long as it fits at this point! Sheesh...

Awesome, thanks again! On a side note, are you planning on lowering your truck? I was going to lower mine and I'm exploring the options for lowering it. I've heard that we can only lower it about 2" in the front, I haven't measured yet - but it looks about right.

I'm just going to level mine out by dropping the back down even with the front. I want to use it for truck purposes after I am done. I don't see much point in having a 4 wheel drive that's two inches off the pavement. ;)

There isnt much room to lower it before the radius arms start making contact with the frame or the axle makes contact with the oil pan.
You said yours was an 06 right? You could probably swap in some 5.4 coils and get a little lower.

I have a regular cab short bed F150, its not a 4x4 but I will measure the tank when the wife gets home with it later.

Jmart I think your tank is about 57 or 59 inches if it's not 4x4. I have tracked a tank Down on a fresh through the door wrecked f150. They want 100 for the tank pump and all components.

I hear ya, yeah - I'm not ever going to tow anything with this truck, it will never go off road, etc. I'd like to lower it as much as I could, but I don't think that's going to be very much. I'd love for the truck to be able to look like the lowered 2WD RCSBs...

I had heard about swapping the coils out for 5.4 ones... I may look into that.

I picked up my f150 fuel tank today for $65. It didn't have the mounting straps or the pickup/pump. Does anyone know if it will easily adapt over to the f250 pump? I also picked up the rear bumper for $100, I may end up selling it on cl though, it has the king ranch back up sensors and wiring harness installed, I'm afraid this truck might look even more ridiculous with those sensors. I got the 2" lowering shackles today from JM cuztomz in garland for $79, they're actually for 88-98 Chevy 1500/2500/3500, but he assured me they would fit. Why do I get the feeling that if anything on my truck doesn't work right its going to be a part made for a Chevy??

I was thinking about removing the blocks under the springs, but read that it causes a lot of vibration, so I did the next best thing and got the shackles. I put a set on a Silverado I had about 10 years ago, it's pretty straight forward, takes about 20 minutes by yourself. I didn't know pulling a leaf spring would reduce it by two inches though. I drove this truck on the test drive and about 65 miles home from ft worth Texas and itr rides rough as Hell. I figured the shocks were shot on it. Did it really help that much?

Also, it looks like I am going to have to track down an f150 sending unit to make this tank work, the holes are not set up the same and they are a different diameter.

My truck started life as a F-350 dually, so naturally it rode rough. I swapped everything over from a SRW F-250 with no blocks, but quickly realized the ride was still terrible - but no vibration. I ended up putting the blocks back in and removed the big flat and one of the curved leafs and left the overloads on just in case. Ride height was virtually unchanged and it rode noticeably better, but its still feels like a truck. I want to get some different shocks on there next as the ones on there now were from the dually.

Well, just when I think I have it all figured out.... The fuel lines are different sizes on the f150 fuel assembley, I didn't take a measurement but the fuel return line on the f250 assembled is the same size as the intake (pump side) on the f150 assembler. I was hoping I could just drop in my f250 assembly but the hole isn't compatible. If I were able to somehow put a reducer on the fuel lines and adapt them to the f150 assembler will it be starving for diesel with the reduction in diameter? I don't really know what to do here unless I just build my own assembly to drop into the hole. Why didn't I just get a 2wd truck. ;)
