I hear ya, yeah - I'm not ever going to tow anything with this truck, it will never go off road, etc. I'd like to lower it as much as I could, but I don't think that's going to be very much. I'd love for the truck to be able to look like the lowered 2WD RCSBs...

I had heard about swapping the coils out for 5.4 ones... I may look into that.

I have a set of 5.4 coils at bills shop, not sure if I'm gonna end up using them on the dually or not so if you end up wanting a set let me know before you go buy some

Build your own pick up tube or buy a 5/8 from sinister and use one of the similar sized lines as a return.

Yeah, I guess I could drill a hole in the top of the assembled and make a pickup from brass plumbing.

That would also eliminate another issue I was looking at. The pickup tube is very short on the f150 assembly and I was going to have to splice it to make it reach the 13 3/4" depth of the tank. This project may be slowed down a little though. I injured my shoulder and working on busting loose all the rusty bolts is killing me.

Dang, sorry to hear about your shoulder. You're really digging into this thing! Have you already cut the frame yet?

Jason, I'll let you know! Thanks!

No, I'm hoping to have it cut by next week though. I am sick of looking at this ugly farm truck in my driveway. :)

Get a bulkhead type fitting and some JIC's to build the pickup tube, you will be much happier in the long run.

The bed bolts? I had one that I couldn't get off with an impact. I cut the head off of it. Not worth fighting.

Thanks man, I will look into that. I'm more of a handyman than a mechanic. I work for the local electric company.

I was thinking about doing that too, these are all pretty rusted, I haven't looked into pricing New ones. Are they mail order or can I pick them up at orieleys/auto zone? This guy also put a goose neck on this truck, he welded the platform directly to the frame cut a hole for the bed bolted the top plate onto the platform (it overlaps the bed hole for a cleaner look) and then spot welded the bolts onto the platform. I wish I had found a cleaner truck lol. This guy was Hell on this truck.

Hey you got me thinking with that jic fitting comment... My neighbor works on hydraulics systems and brings his van home. I bet he could make the pickup tube for me with his eyes closed. Good call. ;)

Haha, let me know how much he would charge to build me one too! :)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you - doing a shorty conversion, keeping it 4WD, having the same issues... I'm just not mechanical, I've got a friend helping me - but I don't want to wear out his generosity. I need to find an F-150 sending unit too I guess...

You need to find an f150 that was wrecked and is being parted out so you can get the tank with the pump and the straps too, it will save you a little money and the headache of calling salvage yards. Their prices vary ridiculously and they will lie just to get you in the door to buy the wrong part in hopes that you will just get frustrated and not come back. I found several people who wrecked their trucks and only had liability insurance so they are eager to make enough on parts to get a down payment for a new truck. Individuals are easier to deal with and more honest. The guy I got the assembly from asked 100 and I countered with 50, it was much easier than those salvage yard guys. I will ask him if he will make you onea also though.

I gotcha, I'm planning on bringing to my friend's shop this coming weekend and leaving it with him. He's a mechanic, who runs his own place. He's set a corner up for me and is my advisor when it comes to these things. He's always done an outstanding job with my past projects, I'm sure this will come out nothing short of spectacular too. I'll keep you posted on what I end up doing, maybe it will help you in your build.

Well I bought a welder and some new blades for the sawzall, just gotta find the time to fix my parking brake, brake lights and turn signals so I can get this truck inspected. I replaced the flasher relay in the dash and the turn signals still don't work, I think it may be the mfs acting up, the hazard lights work but not the turn signals, I will try and tear into it today and maybe get it working. Jmart was right, I got 4/6 of the bed bolts out with an impact and some patience with liberal use of the penetrating spray, but I had to cut the two bolts at the front of the bed. I broke 4 torx bits trying to get them out, I couldn't track down a parts store that had an impact rated torx bit.

The gooseneck hitch was a pita as well. 3/4" bolts tack welded under the bed (where I couldn't really reach them). I just ground them off as well. Once I find a shop/store that carries the fittings I need for my fuel tank pickup assembled I will be in business.

Why not just put a sump in the tank?

Don't you have to drill a hole into the bottom of the tank for that to work? I would be worried about snagging it driving offroad.
