5r110 to 4r100 swap

Okay so I've searched, and I know mpd has done this swap along with other and had good results.

It's come time that I've gone through enough stock transmissions and although the 5r110 is stout I really am not a fan of the inconsistencies. Even when tuned properly I feel like every-time I put my foot down I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen. I don't hate the 5R, I just want to explore other options.

With that being said, I know an adaptor is required. I thought destroked offered a plate, but I'm not seeing this on their site. I also know a standalone trans controller will be needed to control the 4R. Do I use a Zeus for this? What else is needed?

Better yet, is there anyone offering a kit for this? Am I missing it?

Your best bet is to call brain at bts and he can hook you up with the whole kit. You do not need an adapter you use a 4r100 out of a v10 truck you also will be using a pcs controller. What kinda power are you make right now?

Dynoed 630/997 and I still have fuel to clean up. No track times as of now because I don't trust the stock trans for track use.

I'm slowly leaning towards making this truck more of a weekend/track truck, I have a nitrous setup laying around and I'm sure it'll be on the truck later next year.

From what I've gathered so far a 4R seems right up my alley, especially because I run a short rear gear I feel like the 5r hardly has time to react.

Pretty sure you don't need an adaptor, the 4R100 in my 08 shifts awesome, would never go back to a 5R.

I forgot that the v10 4r100 bolts up to the 6.0.

TSD does the entire swap as well as BTS. BTS is a bit of wait from what I hear. Depends on what kind of hurry you're in. You said you've gone through enough stock transmissions but have you had your 5R built at all? My guess is if you have someone do the work, it's gonna set you back in the $7500 range, give or take a few but others may be able to chime in.

For $7500 you can pretty much get a new stage 5 5r110 from Elite. I guarantee you won't break that. Brian pushes this 4r business. They have their weaknesses too.

Close enough if you're spending that much already. Hence 'pretty much'. Converters are a dime a dozen. Whether your at 600 or 1000hp. You should have a dpc, rcd, or precision converter.

I have no worries that a built 5R would hold the power, I mean even a stock one holds the power better then I would of imagined.

The main reason I'm exploring a 4R is because even when tuned properly the 5r just seems like it never shifts the same twice. Not to mention i think I would get down the track faster with a 4 speed.

Twisted can build me a 5r for 5 grand with the converter

I do my own installation so that's not an issue.

If a 4r was equal strength and in the same neighborhood in price (within 1500 dollars) I would consider it.

I guess I don't really know what it would cost for the conversion, I have no idea what a bts costs.

6000 interests me very much. Can anyone verify it would be around that much? And does that include converter?

Yea it include the converter. I have the 4r in my truck so that number goin to pretty close just give bts a call

There must have been an issue internally with the 5r if it didn't shift the same twice. You are correct about a 4 speed. You should consider a pcs with a stage 4 EDE 5r. It will allow you to do the same, while keeping the 5r.

I would not say that unit is the solution if the truck is a track queen. That unit won't last you long, and any builder will tell you to pound sand if its under that abuse. $4000 for a track capable trans is likely to grenade. Probably won't last you half the season. With transmissions, you want a unit that will hold 20% more power than you think you're making at the very least

I'm only weighing options, I've never had a built trans. This is exactly the feedback I'm looking for, I want to hear from you guys that have track proven trucks!

It's entirely possible that the 5R's that have been in my truck do have issues. Mine weren't built.

Maybe I just stumbled upon a fad that has passed by, I just want to put the best possible trans in my truck for the money, and I know you get what you pay for.

People run pcs's with the 5r? I know the 6.4's have bigger issues with the 5r then the 6.0, is a pcs really a necessity?

I mean it's one thing to compare a built 4r to a built 5r but my first impression of this post was that you wanted to off your stock 5r for a built 4r. I had this discussion with someone else but that's comparing apples to oranges. You can get a well built 5r for your purposes substantially less than the 4r swap.
